short search terms not accepted?

Ok, I understand the desire to keep down frivolous searches, but for me to not be able to search .380 or BDA (as in Browning BDA .380) can be a problem. Please consider allowing these as search terms.

I tried searching FN Five-Seven last night. Would not search any of the words.

Try including those terms in quotes. Search for

"FN Five-Seven" or just "Five-Seven"

If you don't enclose that string in quotes, the search engine sees the hyphen as being a minus sign and is searching for posts with the word FIVE but not the word SEVEN included within.

Another trick is to add an asterisk at the end of whatever short word you're searching for. USP becomes USP* and so forth.

Why not just set the Search Index Minimum Word Length to something like '2'? Sure, the database will be larger, but for a forum like this it would make sense...

See if you can get the admin(s) at thehighroad.org to share their search secrets. I was able to do "browning bda 380" and not get results regarding shotguns, hi-power, etc.

They are using the same software we are with the same search engine.
