Anyone here into watches?

No offense to anyone but the Rolex bug just has not bitten me. I work with a lot of people that own them and when I ask them what they like about them it is always the same, the WOW factor of the recognition of the Brand. In truth My Breitling Super Ocean keeps better time than my counterparts Sea Dweller. I also have worn my watch non stop and fix the submarines with it on. I remove it very rarely and it is built like a tank. My friends Ocean Dweller had to have the crystal replaced because it was scratched, I just do not see the point and instead I will buy Omega, Oris, Breitling, Doxa and be happy

Just speaking for myself, I prefer the SS Rolex over just about everything else out there. They have in-house movements, cases, tubes and stems and are made to take the absolute limits of punishment. Also, it's not jewelry like most other brands.

But if it makes you feel better, I'm wearing this 45mm diver today.

JWP,

Very nice Omega,

I have to say that that is the best answer I have ever heard defending the brand, I think that you have sold me on the Rolex's many people before have tried but their reasons were solely for the brand name, you have opened my eyes one of these is in my future

Does anyone know someone who works on Rolex watches? Mine has a broken spring(overwound) and the jewelry store wants to send it back to their repair place to get the spring replaced and "cleaning".....for $480.00. Surely there is a cheaper way to get a spring replaced. Any suggestions/recommendations will be appreciated.

I was down to see Joe Monday and traded one of my junky old guns for one of his junky old watches (I'm moving to Seattle at the end of the month and weight is a consideration -- I traded 50# for 1#).

It's that blue one on the right:

I took it to Bell Jewelers in M'boro yesterday for a minor repair (new battery) and was pleased to receive an offer to purchase equal to the price I was asking for my Junky old Super SASS.

I'm confused. Joe wears fake Rolexes? Rolex NEVER made a quartz version of the Submariner. The made an Oysterquartz as either a Datejust style or a Day Date.

That's why I was surprised. :poop:

That Deep Sea is a really nice watch in person. Has a real presence.

That's just some of my current collection. Had a few other Rolexes, and sold a 30th Anniv. Speedmaster Moonwatch to get the IWC chrono. I'm trying to work out a trade now for a 1976 Speedy Pro.

I'm not nearly as into watches now as I used to be. There's very little out there that interests me anymore. I wouldn't mind getting another Panerai, but a Radiomir this time. And my "holy grail" watch would be a Patek Nautilus.

That's nice, but I'd go for the Daytona...

I HATE Daytonas.

They do lack a bit of manliness and feel like a dress watch. I'm a big fan of chunky divers, so a Daytona would definitely be the oddball in the collection, but I still think they're kind of cool and wouldn't turn one down. :tough:

If you do get the Deepsea...I'd like to check it out sometime.

The Daytona is the only modern Rolex I've ever liked! :)
