Jack Daniel's Distillery

Recommended Posts

I have lived in Tennessee off and on for 20 years, yesterday was the first time that I visited Lynchburg. My wife and I had an excellent time the tour was very informative and I plan on visiting it every year from this day on.

If you haven't visited the distillery do yourself a favor and go. Even if you are not a Whisky drinker it is still very cool

Moore county is Dry so you cannot purchase anything except commemorative bottles from the White Rabbit Bottle store, the only bummer for me was that the store did not sell Single Barrel which is my favorite alcohol bar none. But after the trip once we got into Davidson county I picked up a couple of bottles so all was not lost

JD is pretty cool.......if you get the opportunity, visit a few on the Bourbon Trail in Kentucky.......Woodford Reserve was my favorite so far.

Next time you go eat at Miss Mary Bobo's Boarding House just off the square. They are owned by JD and their dishes show it. The sweet potatoes are enough to make you fail a breathalizer! Make sure you have reservations well in advance, they are booked up sometimes as much as a year in advance.

I'm not a Jack drinker (due to some youthful indiscretions) but I love Kentucky bourbon. Do we need to have a group trip to KY?

If you are a squire, We have a special room where we can go and "sample" Jack Daniel's.

My dad is a Jack Daniels Squire, can I get into the room as his son?

We were going to stay in a Bed and Breakfast and go there, but my girls had school that day so we just spent the day. The next time we will definitely check out Mary Bobo's I hear it is awesome  I have nothing against Kentucky Bourbon, However single Barrel if you have not tried it in my opinion is the best stuff on the planet.I have shot and mixed Old #7 for years, but My stepson gave me a bottle of Single Barrel 2 years ago for Christmas, since then I was hooked. I do not mix, or put ice in, I just sip it conserveatily and It has me thinking on investing in a Full barrel order with 2 other people.

I had some serious youthful indiscretions with Jose Quervo, Jim Beam, Jack Daniel's and Wild Turkey, but the strange thing is that all over the world Africa, Asia, Europe I can always get Old #7 and have a Jack and coke. That is always comforting to me being in a strange country

Just did this for the first time last Sunday...very cool.

I could have stayed in the "barrel house" and done deep breathing exercises for awhile.

My everyday bourbon is Jim Beam 7 Year.

Nothing wrong with 7 year Beam, we all have our own preferences with alcohol just like our guns, however I do not mix alcohol with my guns, that is why I am not shooting today but damn this stuff goes down smooth

we arranged a motorcycle ride from work last summer for all our employees on 2 wheels for a Saturday ride and went to lynchburg to visit and tour the JD distillery. Great ride and what a tour. Had no idea about sourmash and bourbon.

I liked the smell of the double charcoal filtered single barrel or Gentleman Jacks that they let us "inhale" the fumes from by crackin open the cask. Could not get enough!

Bought some collectors bottles from the gift store too. Could only carry back so much on my K1200S. Lucky I had the side bags on.

Have since enjoyed some Gentleman Jacks and the single barrel.

Worth a trip if you have not done it. Informative and you will learn something. At least to drink something new.

Should have read a little more before the last post.

tell me more, Very interesting

Anyone can become a squire as long as a current squire sponsors them. You get a card and I believe a 1 in by 1 in piece of land at the distillery. From what I remember, if you have a family member who is one that passes away they can transfer it to you but not completely sure. You can only sponsor 3 a year. And you have to say that Jack is your whiskey of choice. Which mine is.

I almost cried on the Woodford tour.....the guide spilled about a gallon out of a barrel down the drain while filling a glass for everyone to smell, then after we all got a sweet sweet smell........he dumped the glass down the drain  Me and whiskey had a falling out back in college, but I sure enjoy a nice relaxing Woodford.

Jack has always been my Whiskey of choice, I have been giving single barrel bottles out for Christmas since last year and have converted quite a few Beam fans! Please PM me if you can give me more info,

Best Regards,

I have been a Squire since I turned 21. If you do become a Squire be sure to visit the distillery in October, during the World BBQ Championships JD has a meal there at the distillery for all the Squires. Plus the Squire room is always fun when you visit. I have been collecting the commorative JD for prob. 5 years and my collection is pretty nice. Any other JD collectors?

the maker's mark tour in KY is nice...very small and personal, and you get to dip your own bottle in the wax if you buy a bottle to take home. even have a special label that's only avail there.

I haven't ben to tour JD, but my cousin is Master Distiller down the road at George Dickel - and I recently took my wife and kids on a tour there...

And I agree - the barrel storage facilities was a breath of fresh air :(
