New guy from Chattanooga

Howdy folks, glad to be here. My name is Jon, living in the Chattanooga area for about 5 years or so.

I grew up shooting and hunting in Buffalo NY area. Bow, shotgun, rifle. Well limited rifle hunting, most of Western NY doesn't allow rifles, but tons of target shooting with rifles of all descriptions. Some handgun shooting, but mostly long guns. Then I moved away from home and basically haven't had much chance to shoot since then, so we're talking 15 years or so. In that time I've probably shot a half dozen times max. Well I'm settled down a little more now, and started missing it again. Of course that's lousy timing considering gun and ammo prices these days, but it is what it is. I also travel a lot for work, so I was interested in a SD gun for the wife, while I'm away, and for both of us when I'm home. She figured she'd be more comfortable with a handgun than a shotty, so we went that way. Picked up a new CZ 83, thats a .380 acp semi for those not familiar. As it turns out probably a bad move. While all ammo is up, and some is hard to find, .380 has proven to be darn near impossible to find, and really expensive when you do. Gun shows seem to work, to get it, but holy moses it's pricy. We don't have our safety classes and CCWs yet, but are planning on it pretty much right away. I at least have shot several handguns, and alot of firearms generally, the wife has shot a couple long guns, but until this past Sunday had never fired a handgun. So I figure we can both use the safety class even if we weren't planning on the CCWs.

Next planned gun purchases, sort of in order, but we'll see how prices and timing work out. Shotgun 12 guage, for maybe getting back into hunting and HD. Second handgun, probably smaller that my wife will be more comfortable carrying. .22LR rifle, scoped, always enjoyed shooting them, and you can actually afford to. And just go from there.

So, summed up. I've shot alot, but not for a long time. I've got 1 handgun at this point but plan on picking up more guns. So I'm kinda coming back into the fold.

Quite a few folks from Chattanooga on here, good to know! Ever do Chattanooga meet ups?

Yeah, the .380s been a problem, picked up a .380 CZ that is small and light enough for my wife to be comfortable with, didn't realize ammo for it would be THIS tough to come by. We hit a gun show up in Athens couple of weeks ago and found some, picked up four boxes. 40 bucks a pop :tinfoil:, and we both still need to take our HCP courses, so that's 2 boxed spoken for right there. Haven't owned a handgun in quite a while, so I'm rusty as all get out, and the wife had never shot one before. Went up to the Prentice Cooper range and shot up 1 box, she shot better than I did! heh, rusty may not be the right word. I really want to get up a few more times before we do the HCP course, just so I don't embarrass myself, hehe.

Well if anyone happens to see any .380 by all means post something up. I'll try to get by Skip's and see, but it's probably long gone already.
