Edited to say... I probably said too much so I'm going to just sit tight until I have more for public consumption.

Beat me to it. ;)

Okay, I want to start out with an apology to Sen. Jackson. There's a reason he's a Senator and I'm not. He's good at building consensus and getting things done. I'm good at alienating people and pissing them off. We all have our talents. ;)

Classy post Hex im sure he will appreciate it.:usa::woohoo::tinfoil:

Once it becomes law and doesn't become the "bridge too far" because it didn't contain the curfew and age restriction, I'll be apologizing to everyone else here for being a doubting thomas and willing to accept compromises.

There's nothing I like better than admitting I was wrong about stuff. LOLOLOL

I just got a chance to go back and watch the video on today's Senate session. I agree that Senator Jackson did an outstanding job of handling this bill from the start and his presentation today was no exception. Absolutely outstanding. I do have to disagree with those of you who suggested that Senator Jackson run for Governor. With all due respect, we need men like him to stay in the Senate and continue to stand up for our 2nd amendment rights. If he ran for Governor I would vote for him, but I much rather like having him in the position he is currently in as I feel that is much more effective.

Good work Senator Jackson - and thank you.

The Tennessean and the Commercial Appeal are just liberal rags and I refuse to read either one. Hell, I may just make up my own news.

The Op/Ed moron...is making a lot of assumptions...as most classic liberals assume...no one is more mature and responsible than they are. Bull hockey...IF... I go into a restaurant "armed"...I know and understand the LAW...I will not be drinking adult beverages...the writer assumes we will be risk takers and mock or flaunt the law.

Typical jaded argument from the Tennessean. As usual they are painting HCP holders as criminals just because they carry firearms. To the Tennessean, there is no difference between a soccer mom who is legally permitted to carry a handgun to protect her kids and a gang banger with nothing left to lose.

In the article, he mentions the very murder that Senator Jackson used to get his point across that carry should not be restricted in places that serve alcohol. In that murder, the criminal didn't have an HCP, but the wife of the man that died did - however she was not legally able to carry in Johnny's. If she had been, then that outcome might have been different. As it is, the only thing that the current restriction did was guarantee that an innocent person would be killed that night.

What a stupid, but typically fear-mongering editorial:

The data is solid when it comes to police reports, which can tell you what happens when people enter drinking establishments with a gun.

Actually, the data are [perhaps someone ought to inform the The Tennesseean that their grammar is as bad as their logic--"data" is plural and a plural noun requires a plural verb] clear. Carrying weapons in establishments that serve alcohol is allowed in a number of states (some of them next-door to Tennessee) and in none has it resulted in the bloodbath that The Tennesseean, the Commercial Appeal, and other anti-freedom newspapers promise. :)

I wonder if Jackson didn't hold off a few days to ensure he was able to give such a superb speech.

I don't mind waiting for a speech that good!

This is great news. I just arrived home in Jackson from West Knoxville. Didn't even take time to get the car unloaded till I could get this news.

I guess you could say I celebrated a day early, but was not carrying. I don't know the dummy from east Tn. with the group of restaurants, but I DROVE ACROSS THE STREET FROM CALHOUNS AND ENJOYED A STEAK AT A TEXAS ROADHOUSE ALONG WITH MY FAMILY. That's FIVE PEOPLE you don't get Chase. I hope he sees a message like this thousands of times in the near future and I see notices about Calhoun's closings.

Rockytop - just to clarify, you were not carrying right? This law doesn't take effect until June 1st. :D

You are correct. I definitely was NOT carrying. I was only referring to boycotting anything owned by Cooper. It just made a good meal better.

I do appreciate the concern. I don't want to do anything to screw up all that has been accomplished.

rockytop,

who is Cooper?

Corrected to read "Chase" (Mike Chase)

Thanks for pointing that out.
