Henry lever action question

Looking for help in choosing a lever action rifle/carbine.  I have no use for one just want a lever in my lineup again.   Have owned Marlins and Winnies in 357/44/30-30.  Not really a hunter, though the opportunity for deer/pig may present itself in the near future.  Hence my looking at a 30-30 or .308

Have never owned a Henry rifle, but a couple have caught my attention:

1- Henry H009gl in 30-30

2- Henry Long Ranger in 308 Win

The H009gl is a side gate but otherwise well recognized.  30-30 is not my first preference for hunting.

The Long Ranger in 308 looks great.  Like the .308 round.  Four roundcapacity is ok.  Looks like a bit of an oddball offering though.

My first thought is to go with the Long Ranger due to the .308 round.  However the h009gl would possibly be easier to sell if I get bored with it.

What do ya all think.  Yes there are the new Ruger/Marlins.  Been there, done Marlins.

I think you’re right in your assessment Henry is a great lever gun. And the 308 does seem to be an oddball offering. For resale I think you’re better off with a 44 mag or a 357. Since you can carry one ammo choice for a rifle and pistol.  Just my opinion

I have help a long ranger and it felt great in the hands and on the shoulder.  @TripleGGG has one.

What are your thoughts on the long ranger Greg?

I love love love my 308 Henry Long Ranger. I honestly think Henry may have the smoothest actions on the market right now. I collect Marlin levers, well to be honest, I collect anything lever action, and Henry is making a very solid rifle right now.

I don't think 308 is really an oddball caliber and is pretty easy to sell. It's a very popular round and you can find ammo anywhere. Plus I have 308 bolt action rifles and AR10s so it's not really adding a caliber for me.

I would pick the 308 over the 30-30 all day long. With that said I have the 30-30 as well and it's very nice but give me the 308 every time.

Thanks, did not mean the 308 is an oddball. Rather a mag fed lever coupled with a floating barrel for accuracy.  Possibly Henry is way ahead of my antiquated thinking

Buds has two in display  might pick up the one with iron sights

Was wondering if you run a scope on yours?

To me, the answer would be, what other guns do you have?  Do you have other 30-30 or 308 chambered guns?  If so, that would push the edge that way.  For me, I like to optimize my ammo supply, not having to buy tons of different types of ammo.   Me, I’d go 30-30 as I already have a 30-30 lever action, and don’t have any 308 guns at all (yet).   Does Henry make a 6.5CM lever?  If so, that would be what I would want.  🙂

I understand about the mag feed, etc. Zero issues so far.

I have not put a scope on it yet. It is very accurate. Well as accurate as I can shoot iron sights. Lol. Zero complaints.

I 100% agree on maximizing ammo. As a long time hoarder I can cover almost any caliber. Lol.

Yes they do make a 6.5CM lever. I've been waiting for one to pop up somewhere.

My goal is to own one of each on this list.

I don’t have any use for one myself but always wanted one in 357mag. I have one but can’t seem to find any 44 rimfire. 😆
