Drivers and their stupid behavior during this flood

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

We have had drivers in my area move barriers and drive through high water and then having their cars ingest water into their engines. Then their engines seize. The driver then learns the rules of hydrodynamics and how water and most fluids don't compress ending up in broken and bent connecting rods. Then we have had drivers drive up to barriers and then they drive through people's yards to go around the barriers and high water. This ends up destroying people's yards. The selfishness and stupidity has never reached a high like it has during this flood. I have seen a lot during my years and this tops how rude , inconsiderate , selfish , and dangerous people have become. Sadly this is a whole new generation and it is sad. I just had to vent. Their is nothing important or urgent enough to drive through high water risking your life and then getting screwed up causing Emregency personnel to risk their lives to rescue you when you should have just not gone through the water to begin with !

I believe that we have a lot of people that think they are the only ones that are important-

It's really become like I tell my wife the era of ME-ME-ME-

I don't know if narcissism is to blame or if the age of the everyone gets a trophy is taking place-

I see young men riding dirt bikes through peoples yards and think nothing of it-they park in our streets 2 deep and make us drive around their nonsensense-

So I am not sure what you are seeing is any different elsewhere-

And if you happen to call them on their behavior, you are made to look like you're the bad one-

The reason I live on a farm in Westpoint.  I just don’t have the patience for them these days.  I hate to even go to Lawrenceburg anymore.  Most times when I do I meet someone across the line texting.  I think we live in the best place in the world but it is sinking I am afraid.

My pet peeve is people tossing trash out of their vehicles onto the side of the road. I pick up about one shopping bag of beer cans and fast-food trash every other week or so along the road that bounders one edge of my property. I'd love to know where one of those litterers live so I could go and dump a load in their yard.

Sadly the stupidity and ignorance is on daily display on the roads around Clarksville. There is zero consideration for other drivers, personal property or pedestrians. Tiny town is like a madd max race, no one drives the speed limit or obeys basic traffic rules.
Whenever there is a flood it’s not a matter of if rescues will be needed, you know there will be always be those people that disregard barricades and attempt to drive through high water.

Everybody around here drives like a jackass regardless. I am from Indiana and am blown away by the stupidity I have seen on the road since I have been here. I am not surprised.....

You really should not paint with such a broad brush, I've been driving over fifty years now, it only had one accident that was my fault. Everything else was either I was rear ended or getting hit in a parking lot.

Granted, one year metro nashville had the most wrecks per capita. But we are not all like that.

You're right about that, and the majority of drivers are as safe as anywhere else, but since I moved here five years ago I've been astounded at the number of really bad drivers I encounter as opposed to other places I've been. I like to ride my motorcycles on the very cool, twisty back roads around here, but it seems that on almost every ride I encounter at least one driver coming toward me over the center line. It happens so frequently that I make a point of leaving a good margin to the centerline around any blind corner. I've also noticed that a whole lot of people fail to use turn signals, and there are too many people who think that yellow light on a traffic signal means to hurry on through. AdamB overstated it, but I understand his point of view.

Turn signals around here are useless and I kinda wish manufacturers would quit even putting them on new cars.  There is a 1 in 3 chance the driver will do what they signal their intent is.  I pretty much disregard turn signals and watch for what other drivers actually do.

I have an 08 Road King that I am selling because I am afraid to ride it with drivers like I meet on the road.  At my age I don’t think my bones would heal as fast as they once did.
I have had a couple friends killed and couple more injured badly and just got me to thinking too much I guess.  Plus I enjoy seeing my 2 year old granddaughter too much.

Tercel, no surprises at all in what you’ve said. Saw it a whole lot during the big flood we had around Cumberland City in 2010. Barricades, high water, and patrol cars blocking the road didn’t mean a thing.
Saw it again last Wednesday night/Thursday morning here. After having to cut my way all the way through Houston county to get here, we had a big tree down near TVA blocking the whole road.
I don’t know how many people pulled up to me, with me sitting in the middle of the road with blue lights on, “hey is the road open to go through, can I get through here?”

”Yeah man, that’s why I’m sitting here blocking the road, just so you can get through”

On a brighter note though, while I was trying to cut my way through Houston county, this kid pulls up in a big jacked up Chevy 4x4 with vanity lights all over it. I was already about half irritated over the situation anyway, so I started thinking negative right off the bat, wondering what in the world does this guy want.
NOPE. I was WRONG. This kid jumps out with a big Husqvarna chainsaw in hand ready to go to work. He followed me all the way to Cumberland City helping me cut. I realized once again that there are in fact some good people left in the world.

That kid had good parents that taught him well ! Awesome on his part ! His kind is few and far between. I agree with you on the idiots. I have had whole roads blocked where 18 wheelers were clearly seen on their side and some people would ask me if they could get through. UNREAL.

Just want to add it irks me that the news crews go out in the crap and risk using emergency resources that are needed elsewhere.

Oh and Nashville drivers can't drive in the sunshine either. Apologies to the few that can.

There weren't near as many bad drivers here until the residents of every flippin state in the Union decided to move to Tennessee. Some of them I welcome and most of them I wish would go back to where they came from.

People used to get under my skin when they talked about how Tennesseans were back woods rednecks. Now I just add that living amongst the mosquitoes, ticket, chiggers, poison ivy, rattlesnakes, copperheads, and alligators makes us that way because they are literally everywhere.

Naw, I always thought Memphis drivers were some of the worst and I formed that opinion decades ago.

1) I'm not above a white lie to keep a West Coaster away.

And 2) there is an alligator population in West Tennessee.

Yeah Memphis is different for sure. Haven't spent much time there until recently. But the driving is wild.
