As to what Punisher is saying, if you want to look at a house down there, have a gander at the original deed from the developer. They state that they are not selling the land with the guarantee that anything can be built on it, because they used about 20 feet of fill dirt to raise up and level the area. The area on Mud Island just south of Auction Street is a good example. The land owner was bringing in fill to raise and level and ended up having several million cubic feet of dirt slide into the harbor there. Very messy and very expensive to clean up.

Was born and raised in Memphis. Never stepped foot in Graceland until I was about 28 and had been in Knoxville for 8 years.

I don't know about now, but it's not really something the natives do, as least not anyone I knew.

2009 is kind of an anniversary for Mud Island (the sand bar, not the houses) as it did not even exist before 1909. It started forming 100 years ago.

That was cool to see (I saw the afterwards, not when it happened, that would have been really cool).

Love the earthquake stuff. Punisher, next time you are in New Madrid, go to the museum. Cool place. My mom lives in one of the worst areas for earthquake issues, Reelfoot Lake, just a few miles from New Madrid, which was formed during the earthquakes of 1811-1812. If the earthquake, of that maginitude hits, we are screwed, all of West Tennessee. That is why I want my AR and ammo, because there will be zombies walking Memphis, looking to loot and eat.

Anyway, Memphis is not that bad, there are spots which overachieve in being bad, and that is what gives Memphis the bad name. Just like every city, like Nashville, Knoxville, Chatt, there are areas that you want to stay away from and the "good" areas are not immune. When they get hungry enough, they leave their N'hoods and go to yours.

Graceland, seems like most of the locals go once, that's it. It's not like it changes. Same old dated 1970's decor. Elvis isn't coming back to redecorate anytime soon. If you go, go armed, that is one of the areas that are not so good anymore.

When we lived there, anytime family or friends would come into town we'd take them there. I've literally been there 6 times...

First couple times were cool, b/c the first time or two you might have missed something. The last few times were absolute hell. I have nightmares about the Jungle Room...

Been to and through Memphis numerous times and have found that the very best view of the city is seen from looking into the rear view mirror. But to each their own. If you like Memphis that's great.
