Did mine when I got TSA precheck and global entry a few years ago. Our DMV is pretty low traffic, my appt was on-time and was done in a 10 mins. They didn't want anything they don't already have access to. Probably one of the lowest impact .gov things I've ever had to do.

Trying to get the 50+ discounted Sam's membership with ID.me on the other hand....totally intrusive and unnecessary. Why Sam's thinks they need to take $10 off is what I would like to know.

Yeah, when I did my appointment for my Hazmat and my TWIC I was told by the lady that having both of them automatically got me enrolled in TSA Precheck.

For someone with such a history of strong anti-government feeling, I sure have been very thoroughly vetted by them. I don’t know if it’s related, but my average wait time on a TICS check over the last 10 years has been about 2 minutes. 😂😂😂

When I moved to TN a few years ago, we got our licenses in Dickson DMV, they told us that generally ALL new licenses are issued as RealIDs, and they are.   We tend to fly a lot, so it is important for us to have them.   But for those who say they “never” fly, the problem comes up when you HAVE to fly for something, now it is just a pain in the butt to fly (I guess as long as you carry your passport it doesn’t matter).

But each their own, once you get it, you’ll always have it so it is pretty simple process.  I do wonder if they are going to make RealID a requirement to vote; trying to eliminate some of the illegals from the voting process (not such a big deal in TN, but other states yes).

I expect hell will be a lot like the DMV. I’m not making an extra trip there, but I’ll get it when I have to renew. I can’t imagine going there when it isn’t necessary.

Question: if you don't have the Real ID, will they still let you renew over the internet or by mail or will they make you go to DMV and  get the little star?

The DMV in TN is a walk in the park on a beautiful spring day; you want fun, try going to the SoCal DMV.  It’s an absolute disaster.   Even if you have an appointment that you need to get 6 months in advance, you still have to wait 4 to 6 hours and then you better not have any question or mistakes.

I assume so for regular DL’s but who knows how long that will last.  REAL ID’s are still optional.

Had mine since they first started issuing them pre covid . In out done in no time.

Same for me. Driver's license office in Kingston is fantastic. The ladies running that office are very efficient and absolutely hilarious.

Haven’t got one yet. Not too concerned about it. I have a current passport, tsa precheck and a military id.
If you don’t get one by the deadline absolutely nothing will happen.
Probably get one when I have to renew my DL.

My dl came up for renewal end of last year.  Had to renew in person for new picture so I went ahead and got the star.  Was able to make appointment online. Appointment lead time was a couple of weeks.  Checked in with phone when I arrived.  Was in and out in less than 15 minutes.  Quickest trip to dmv for me that I ever had.
