Opinions on Optics

I love Red Dots on my AR's but as I've gotten older I find it harder and harder to shoot at over 50 yards with one.  I'm thinking of either a LPVO or a Red Dot with a 5X magnifier.  Let's use for example, a 11.5 AR...would you go EOTech EXPS3 with a G45 magnifier orrrrrr a Vortex Razr 1X6X24???

I feel the same way. I do like red dot to 50-75 yards but after that a 1-4 or 1-6 works well. Looking at a 1-10 Arrowhead right now.

A LPVO is the best in my opinion only because it's what works in my case-

I have a 1x8 on my .308 Ruger SFAR and very much like the variable from nothing to 8 power-

The field of view at 1 power is very wide which is nice if the rifle is getting used for defensive purposes-

The first time I saw an EO Tech with a magnifier, it felt like a mess.

I have both.  The dots are far better if you're in a hurry under 100 yards, although hitting a 2/3 IPSC steel target at 200-300 isn't a big deal.  The LPVO is better if you want more precision or are shooting farther out.  My favorite current setup is a Holosun 510C with their 3x magnifier.  No, it's not the Gucci EoTech, but the sight picture is clean and it's reliable as a rock.

Magnifiers behind dots are OK but not ideal.  I run a Vortex Razr 1x6x24 with a Holosun 508T on an offset mount on one of my rifles.  I like that setup better.  The LPVO is great for longer, precision shots, and I can cant the rifle slightly and peep through the 508T for faster shooting up close.

I actually like the Holosun better but wanted a stronger magnifier than the 3X and my OCD wouldn't allow to mismatch with EOTech lol.

Is the Razr as bad AZZ as the reviews I've read about it?  I've read the glass is absolutely incredible.

The only thing I've personally seen that I like better is glass from Nightforce.  But I would have had a hard time spending twice as much to get it.

Had a Vortex Razor gen 2e 1-6. It was a very nice optic, but I found it was too heavy for me liking. Ended up going with a 2x prism instead and am happy with it. Lots of nice prisms out there that are worth a look if you have not considered them.

I've done so much with a scope between 2x and 6x it's ridiculous. I shot F-Class with a 55x and shot tactical stuff with a 25x. Both Nightforce. I would take a 3x15 over just about anything now. Inside a house or building, I use an aimpoint.

I don't have experience with either, but I like using a 3x prism scope on an AR.  For me it strikes the right balance between quick acquisition and helping see the 75-150 yard targets more clearly.

I’m almost positive that Holosun makes a 6x magnifier.  I’ve read and a couple friends have told me 5x and 6x magnifiers usually have smaller eye relief ranges and more finicky eye boxes.  No personal experience, though.
