Tree Removal

Having 7 trees removed and 8 more trimmed come Monday. Costing me 4800.00. Some of these trees are leaning over our house and only 30 feet away. These trees are from 40 to 55 feet tall and probably over 60 years old. We have lived here for 40 years, and they were large when we built our house.  I had them trimmed 15 years ago and they have grown back and now several has leaned over the house if they would fall. Lots of money but it is not getting any cheaper to take them out. I mean some of these trees are very tall and large most hackberries and one 55' wild cherry, and one 55' ceder.

I had 8 trees removed in October, 30-36" base, 110' tall, 6 trees were by the house, they were house killer trees, paid 6k to remove them, grind stumps, they took the logs and left me with rest.

to put things in perspective, that's a 65' boom truck.

With the wind this morning, I am wishing the trees were already gone. Blowing very hard her in Lascassas, which is 8 miles east of Murfreesboro TN. Hope none of you guys have any damage today. We do need the rain but not the wind.

Personally for these prices, I'd buy myself a good chainsaw, a stump grinder, and a wood chipper and do it all myself.

Right now I have an OK chainsaw, and a cheap wood chipper and probably would do it myself with just that.   But for $4800, I could upgrade all of my equipment, do it myself, and still have the equipment at the end.   Yeah, it would take longer, but not that much longer.

I have an ECHO CM420, purchased at Home Depot, but I really want the STIHL 500i.   🙂

I just took down 20 or 30 fairly large trees, the largest around 20 inches at the base. Only a few were close to my garage, and on those I put a rope up in them and used a rope puller to put some torque on them. Everyone went where I wanted it to go, even those without the rope. But if I had one near the house I'd probably hire a pro.

I'm planning to rent a stump grinder on Wednesday. $300 a day, including tax, and $40 a tooth if I damage one. I reckon Wednesday will be a tiring day for me.

Good luck with your trees. I know that's a stress-inducer!

Great in theory, sometimes not great in practice. Sometimes, tree work comes down to experience and capability (and insurance). None of this is directed directly at you, I don't know your experience or lack thereof. It's just...general advice.

My Dad has fallen many trees in his lifetime. He helped his step-dad all the way from growing up. I'd trust him with anything that he currently "says he can do".

Some people think it is as simple as owning a chainsaw. Sometimes, those people end up dead.

I pretty much do everything myself, I know when to step back and let a pro do it, I have a nice CS, a tractor with a bucket, I can cut up a tree and push it into a pile for burning within 30min or sooner.

You realize that log is 36"+ at the base and probably 30" 60+' up, probably weights close to 20k# and it's leaning towards my house, pretty sure my agent would say sorry if I dropped it on the house.

Of course, you need to make sure you know what is within your capabilities.   And every situation is different, so yeah, just making general fundamental comment.   Overall I’d do it myself, but if warranted and I didn’t think I could do it, I’d 100% have to pay someone to do it.

I feel your pain. We've had several large trees cut down that were right next to and overhanging our house. I still have 1/2 left of an oak that I need to have cut down. Just 1/2 of the base is about 3-4 ft in dia. The other half I already had cut down was leaning towards and had a huge branch, about 1ft thick, growing about 25ft over our house. I breathe easier when the weather is bad knowing there is nothing over or growing towards our house now. The trees we've had cut down were simply too large and way to tall for me to mess with.

I had 1 tree trimmed pretty good 5 years ago, $600.

A neighbor's tree took out one of my trees, clean up was $1200 3 years ago.

The men who are taking the trees out are here. They are going to cut 5 large strait logs and stack them on my back yard shooting range so I can increase the backstop to shoot into. A win win for me. I will spray them with termite spray, and they should last a good while.

Edited to add; I have 2 very good chain saws but had a heart attack last April. I just turned 77 the 4th of this month. Have 11 stents in my heart. Not in the cards for me cutting 7 large trees and trimming 8 more. I have cut many many trees in my younger days as we used a wood heater for 20 years to heat in the winter. A MAN MUST KNOW HIS CAPIBILITIES. I ain't got it anymore guys. That's life!

Edited to add; It has been really hard to realize my health, strength, and abilities leaving me. Just a wobble old man now, however I am content and happy and have the "promise" God grants to all through His Son Jesus Christ. Man can't ask for anything more than a good family life and peace at the end of one's life. I have been blessed because I have accomplished the things one must do to be able to take advantage of God's Grace. If you are old like me, and you want peace, find Jesus Christ. No one comes back to God except through HIM.
