How did we get blessed with such a pro-firearms Assembly??

Is it my imagination, or does it seem like this year's TN Assembly seems to be preoccupied with passing (and thank God they do!) a lot of different pro-firearms legislation? Was I just not paying attention all these other years? It just seems like there is a lot more of it these days!:) I wish that I could say the same thing for our country's Congress!

Easy, enough republicans were elected that they regained the majority of the house and Naife was dethroned from the Speaker of the House chair by a Republican. Gun bills aren't new, but before, Naife would appoint anti-gun legislatures, ie his cronies, to the special committees and that would vote down any legislation that was pro gun, ie killing it before they could go to the floor for a full vote. Once he was out of the way, they were able to make it out of committe and go for a full vote and have a chance to be voted on.

^^^^^what he said^^^^^

This is just the first time in a while any have made it to the floor and debated in committee with a an actual chance of passing out of the committee.

They're starting to hear the 'still, small voice' of a constituency that has had ENOUGH!

And 'what these other guys have said'!

It is really hard for me to go visit my g/f and her family up in Covington without mouthing off. The whole damned placed is named with "Speaker Jimmy Naifeh Some BS Building". They LOVE the guy up there and I don't know why. Going to Covington is like going to WV where every other building is named "Byrd".

I had to swear to the g/f not to talk politics while with her folks, and I have managed to fulfil the agreement, but it is damned hard I will tell you!

WTF is wrong with those people?

This proves one thing: GO VOTE, it will make a difference.

I guess one vote does make a difference!:)

Nate, that was my exact argument one day with someone who wasn't going to go vote basically under the premise of 'one vote doesn't matter'.

I told him that my 'one vote' matters to me...

And the 'one vote' of a bunch of folks like me apparently now DOES MATTER!!

I learned a long time ago that ONE VOTE can, indeed, make a difference. ONE VOICE can make a difference, and ONE LIFE can make a difference. I'm almost 55 years old and shocked and sick to death of what is coming out of Washington, DC. You better believe this is ONE PERSON who is going to campaign against every jerk up there who has put us in such a financial black (no sorry, RED!) hole!! I've never worried about things like I worry now. It seems like there's never a day that goes by where I don't read or hear something that some politician did, and it makes me say, "I don't believe it!" Thanks for telling me about the TN Assembly folks -- I've been sending them thank yous!

I live in Munford, so I feel your pain. I go to church with people who adore him. He has done favors for a lot of people. I won't even do business at the Naifeh grocery stores.

some of you guys owe speaker Williams a big "IM SORRY".....

For what? doing the right thing now? He still lied and betrayed his word to his fellow party and acted against the will of the people and we are supposed to apologize now because he isn't being completely stupid at the moment? His original criticism is valid and can't be washed with his current actions. However, I do like what he has done so far but will try to get him voted out first chance we get. He can't be trusted.

Refresh my memory....what GUN bills have been signed into LAW? NONE I think...at least not yet...and the deadline is what JUNE 1st? My $$$ is on Bredessen either Vetoing or NOT signing all together. Then the State Legislature will wring their hands and time will expire...and this stuff will be carried over to the next session. I honestly hope it doesn't, but I have faith in our gov't

I tend to more agree with the above.

I don't think on how he may or may not vote on gun bills was even really discussed when he was elected to speaker.

I'm glad the criticism of how he got to his post affect the actions he has taken since getting there as far as gun bills go. I'm also glad that he has seemed to take an overall pro stance in votes and committee assignments. But how he got there was still not the cleanest play in the book.
