MY SECRETS TO FINDING PRACTICE AMMO

I can't believe I'm giving away my secrets, but I do want to help! Here goes:

First, load all these Wal-Mart numbers in your cellphone so that you can call them ANYTIME you are near these stores. As you know, trying to find ammo is a constant search, but if you have these numbers in your cellphone and you're out and near one of these stores, this will help you determine whether or not to stop.

Farragut 777-5171

Lenoir City 986-9002

Walker Springs 690-8986

Oak Ridge 481-2503

Powell 938-6760

Alcoa 984-1099

East Town 544-7710

Clinton 457-4121

Chapman Hwy 577-2596

Maryville 982-3660

Halls 922-6031

Kingston 354-0863

Jefferson City 475-0730

Sevierville 429-0029

Second: Call and ask for the sporting goods department. Be nice on the phone because these folks are getting AT LEAST 50 calls an hour, all asking the same question! If they don't have what you want, thank them for answering the phone and taking your call. Ask them if they have an idea of when during the week they may be expecting a shipment. Sometimes they know, but most of the time they don't.

Thirdly: Wal-Mart Corporate issued a memo to all their stores that they can only sell 6 boxes of ANY ammo to a person per day. It doesn't mean 6 pistol, 6 shotgun either. It means 6 total. They cannot save it for you until you get there, either.

FOURTH: If you want to buy bulk ammo, or try to buy "hard to find" ammo, try this URL, IT'S THE BEST I'VE SEEN!:

http://www.ammoengine.com/

FIFTH: If you want to check ammo prices to see if something is a good deal or not, or perhaps to find a different website supplier that's not listed on ammoengine, try this URL:

http://gun-deals.com/ammo

IMPORTANT! Okay, you have all my secrets now for finding practice ammo! One more thing! It would not be fair to give out this info without telling you folks that it's really important to support your local gun stores. I always buy my personal defense ammo and guns from a local gunshop. It's always good to get to know these folks because I guarantee you Wal-Mart is not selling handguns nor do the vast majority of them have folks who can help you with any your gun problems.

Happy Ammo Hunting!:tough:

That sounds too much like work to me.

of course, I have enough ammo, and if I get too low, I'll just shoot a little less for a while.

This is where more than one hobby comes in handy.

Happy hunting.

Nothing secret about that. In fact, it only works to a degree. Some wallyworld clerks will flat-out lie to you, no matter how much you say please and thank you. It doesn't take much imagination to figure out why--someone is scratching their palm. Maybe less so since the new 6 box limits, but in SE TN/NW GA area, I have a strong suspicion about clerks at 4 different wallyworlds.

:( Hate to burst your bubble, and appreciate the gesture :tough:, but that's not a secret, unfortunately everyone already does that, that's why Wal Mart is always out. (and the search engines aren't always up to date, and ammo for sale websites are mostly all out of stock)

The only thing that works for me lately is Academy, they don't limit (Franklin WM lets you get one box of each selection anyway, up to six), and they at least have some in stock on a regular basis. If they're out of .40 S&W, they have .45, if they're out of .45, they have 9mm, etc etc

It's just hit and miss right now ;) But thanks anyway :)

You're certainly not bursting my bubble, and constantly checking on these stores IS TEDIOUS, FRUSTRATING, etc., but the truth is, I usually don't go more than 2-3 days without finding these calibers: 9mm, 32 acp, and 40 S&W. It may take a little more time to find 45 acp, but the only place I've found the .380 is on the web, and it IS STILL a backorder -- I have three of them! Like I said, Good Luck, be persistant, and be nice -- I think if most Wal-Mart employees had their choice, Wal-Mart wouldn't sell any ammo at all!

If you buy .380, try Academy Sports on Tuesdays. They tend to get in a lot of ammo on their Tuesday shipments. I happened to run into the one close to my house one day and they had 50+ boxes of their Monarch .380 in a mixture of FMJ and JHP.

Of course they haven't had any (that I've come across) in several months....

Academy's shipments come in Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. (It's sad us gun owners know the shipping patterns of major chain stores isn't it)

thats pretty cool TNV, even is some are unapreciative.

I like to stop by in the morning hours during the week. One of the things that is nice about a job with personal freedom.

I really believe the 6 box limit is helping.

I have a friend who has a friend in the sporting goods dept. at a un-named Wal Mart. Said friend calls new friend and new friend tells my friend what time a truck will be here and what's on the truck....ain't it great to have friends who have friends....sorry for the drift....

It's too bad you live in Kville, or I'd stalk you and follow you to the W-M

I'm not having any problems getting 380 ammo for a reasonable price on gunbroker.com. I got the majority of it in 2 days and no more than 4. Didn't like that ammoengine.com as its not up to date with very little results. No problems at all for the other calibers either.

In the past two days, I've found 100 count boxes of Winchester White Box 9mm and 40 S&W. These were at two different Wal-Marts. I'm telling you guys, if you'll just take the time to make a few phone calls on a regular basis, you WILL be able to catch the 9mm and 40 S&W at Wal-Mart. I think the 6-box limit is helping, too!

I found 100 round bulk packs of .223 for $40.00 at the Wal-Mart in the 'boro. Not to bad for brass cased Federal. Especially when Wolf is only a few cents per round less.
