Colt Python storage

I've got a Colt Python that has only been shot a hand full or times. It is sitting in a safe. Is there anything I need to put on it to protect it from corrosion?

Give it to me, I promise to protect it :hat:

Congrats, they are very nice for sure, I have 3 de humidifiers in my safe and they do the trick on all of mine

As willis68 said, have some form of dehumidifier in your safe, either one of the electric wands or the silica gel that gets baked every so often to drive off the absorbed moisture.

Give it a light coating of gun oil or one of the spray silicones for guns. This will remove any oils from handling that promote rust. Don't drown it just wipe it down well.

+1 on the thin coat of oil. As far as moisture, make a trip to WallyWorld n get a canister dehumidifier for a closet. Comes in a small plastic cup. Works great...

I would consider TN to be a mild climate. That being said, I've lived in TX, LA and MS which were quite humid. I've found the best protection against those climates to be a thin coat of gun oil, preferably "BREAKFREE CLP COLLECTORS" -- This gun oil was formulated for storage of fine weapons. A high quality silicon gun rag is also recommended.

The guns should not be stored in bag or pouch.

I recommend shooting it, enjoying it, and cleaning it after each use.......it will last many many many years.

My dad gave me for Christmas his blued Colt Python with 6 inch barrel. It had only been shot a couple times by me and him in the last 30 plus or so years since he bought it.

I now enjoy it with my son we shoot it and clean it and have fun with it.
