Found this video to a local shop. They are advertising a "super simple" process, at around 0:10, "Our front desk girls will do the entire background process for you --- There's no more paper forms, and no more stress on your end".

Is that completely kosher by the book? I've never seen it done this way.

Surely the customer has to answer the questions and sign the electronic form.  Not enough detail in the video to tell how they actually do it.

I imagine that you are right, a customer having to answer the questions verbally. Even then, it seems to potentially introduce a level of either error or deniability that would offer...no paper trail.

I have done many 4473’s via computer at a dealer. That isn’t the issue.  They still have to ID you, etc.   not sure about if they type it in for you, but just being electronic isn’t an issue.

I have filled it out the form electronically on more than one dealers computer and they were all adamant that I had to complete it myself and that someone else can't be answering the questions for you. If you have a disability and need assistance, I can see the need.  If they ask you every question, you answer and they them complete may pass scrutiny but I would think it would be questionable and i would not want to participate in the method.

Not much detail in the video, but I suspect the buyer is simply entering their info via keyboard vs pen/paper.  The process always starts with providing an ID to an employee like the guy did in the video.  Every electronic 4473 I’ve ever done has a section at the end to review all answers.

Just seems a customer service thing.  The form isn't terribly complicated, but I can see some folks who would hate the online version and appreciating some help.
