Thank you!
My hobbies are inexpensive compared to my wife’s hobbies. She’s a frequent world traveler, and regularly travels domestically and abroad to line dance. It’s a huge culture. I traveled with her for a few years, but it got boring to me.  We meet new people, but it’s almost always the same faces from all over the country.  I’m a home body and she’s a million watts of energy.  She can’t sit still. IMG_8394.thumb.jpeg.10f94665e16d476ed0b32b98d87b27a0.jpeg😂

As a matter of fact, she in Dubai as I type this, and will be heading to Phuket on Monday. I’m the Dollar Store and she’s Tiffany & Co.

The really good news is that you can monitor her safety via drone all from the comfort of your basement.

I watched this movie over the weekend.

Nutshell: They are all sextuplets but do not know of each other's existence. The movie is about them coming together and meeting each other for the first time. There is one of the siblings that...eh...is really smart and nerdy and intertwined somehow into intelligence but lacks emotional intelligence.

At the end of the movie, one of their siblings is sitting on a beach (connected via FaceTime) and says something that gets a rise out of them. The nerdy sibling says something to the extent of "I have drones in the area, do you want me to hit him with a drone strike?".

It just...made me think of you keeping an eye on your Wife remotely and taking out threats she never knows about.

Actually, that would make a great movie. International traveling wife that travels for fame and fortune but rich nerdy guy stays home all the time. She never understands or appreciates him at all but come to find out he runs a full intelligence operation out of his basement just to keep her safe. He never tells her and she never notices. Shenanigans ensue.

I think that would be a very entertaining movie.  I may pitch it to my niece.  She’s a school teacher, but she also makes low budget Tubi and Indie movies.  If she films it, I’ll ensure you  get credit for the concept. Thanks!

I haven’t heard of that movie.  I’ll add it to may watch list.

No joy on getting a 5090 gpu.  They were all gone within five minutes of launch. I had six tabs of different venders open with my credit card and PayPal info saved, notified my cc company that I would be making a large purchase, made mini purchases of thermal paste and CR2032 batteries to ensure I was in the system and the closest I got was a notification that I was in line at Best Buy.  One guy watched his notifications for eight hours. 😂

Five minutes after launch, the 5090’s were sold out everywhere. It turned out to be a paper launch with only a few hundred 5090s available nationwide. It seems that most were sent to influencers and only a few hundred were actually available for purchase. Gamers Nexus did a pretty good breakdown on availability based upon the information he could get.

I think I’ll be content with the setup I already have.  It’s an excellent setup. Wanting the RTX 5090 is a first world problem.  I’m thinking of spending the money on a piece of exercise equipment I’ve been eyeing for my home office.

Nice setup. I'm not sold on the 50 series yet. I currently have a 4080 super OC'd pushing a 34" ultra wide at a very steady 120fps at 3440x1440. I also have a valve index VR (under a lot of dust sadly) and the card exceeds it's refresh rate. The card gobbles anything I throw at it with max settings, ray tracing, etc.

I have two close friends who spent about 5k on their rigs and bought 4090s. One of them works in 3d animation, so it's great for him. The other is a gamer and he's got buyers remorse as the card is complete overkill.

According to the reviewers, the only 50 series card to have at the moment is the 5090.  The 5080 and 5070 aren’t better than the 4090, maybe they will beat the 4090 when the supers and TI models start coming out in a few months. I’d prefer the 4090 for the small, but unnecessary performance boost I’m seeking. The problem is you can’t trust anyone when buying used.

‘As far as VR, I’m satisfied with the Pimax Crystal Light. The pass through is mediocre at best  It’s a very grainy black and white view..Looks like something from the 1950s.  I guy it’s better than nothing. It keeps me from having to remove the headset when I need to see or reach for something. What’s going on with the Valve Index? I don’t hear much about it since the Crystal and Quest came on the scene. Did it get the same treatment as the HP Reverb?

People were abusing scalper bots on eBay yesterday. They were selling photos of the 5090 for $3000.  They warned humans to read the entire post before purchasing.  I’m certain those ads are still up.

Yeah I wouldn't trust the used market. I feel like the leap from 4070 to 4090 would be sizable though? Maybe I'm wrong? It would also be a lot cheaper than a 5090 that you likely won't fully utilize with gaming. (Total assumption)

Bear in mind it's not all GPU, what CPU are you running? You don't want to bottleneck your performance because the proc can't keep up.

You're that asshole who kept shooting me down in War Thunder, aren't you? 🤣

DCS players salivate at the idea of fighting someone from War Thunder. 😂

I’m currently running a Ryzen 7 7700x, B650M mobo and 64gb ram. I think it handles everything well. If I had to, I’d have no problem upgrading to a Ryzen 7800x3d cpu, but I think the 7700x performs well for my needs. My rig is dedicated to DCS.  I use a laptop for everything else.

I don’t have a need for the 5090.  It’s just something I wanted. It’s crazy that they would launch knowing that most of their inventory was going to enterprise with only a few hundred going to the public.

Need and want are mutually exclusive for sure. I totally get wanting the big dog and knowing you're at the top. You buy once, you cry once. But unfortunately Nvidia is notorious for undelivering on volume.

Somehow I completely missed with the rest of this response.

I really like my index, but I've had BOTH base stations die. Valve has replaced both free of charge, even outside my warranty period....which tells you they know it's a problem. But hey, they're making good on it.

I've heard they were making a new one, but I don't follow the hype because VR gaming is a dead end. There's only a couple of actual triple A titles and 500,000 cheap cash grabs. It's the 3D TV of gaming. If you aren't doing a simulator, it's not even worth it.

I've never bought a flight stick, so I tried DCS with waggle controls. It's just weird. Occasionally I will watch a movie in big screen or play mini golf with a buddy, but that's about it.

Nvidia is leaning more towards AI, so gamers are becoming an afterthought.  They definitely haven’t gained any new fans with this launch.

https://distill.io/

I used to use that back in the early 20's when GPU's were impossible to find. It works great for some sites, those that are mostly static in nature. I was mainly watching AMD's site for their GPU's and their page is very simple/static. I don't know what success you'd have with something like Best Buy.

What I loved about the service was if you install it on multiple machines you can essentially designate which machine makes the check. Example: I could be at work but my home computer was loading AMD's site every 30 seconds. As soon as it detected a change my browser at work would submit a ding and could even automatically open the page in a new tab (if I recall correctly.

JayzTwoCents put out a video a couple of days ago about the 5080 being an OC monster with much better performance gains than right out of the box. I didn't pay too much attention to it as I'm not in the market for a new GPU but he did mention some positive things about it after further testing. Maybe NVIDIA will learn its lesson for 60 series in couple of years and hopefully AMD gets back on the high end card manufacturing to keep NVIDIA on its toes. I'm also pretty hopeful for when Intel releases their C series cards as the B series made a pretty big splash a few months ago for the budget gamers.
