Just saw this news article and couldn't believe it. A couple and their 2 kids were playing in the snow and were shot at. The shooter alleges he shot at them because they were trespassing.

He's been arrested and is held on $10K bond. Seems like there has to be more to the story because sane people don't shoot at kids playing in the snow even if they're trespassing. Then again, he may just be nuts. Who knows?

It's Birchwood so .....

I'm not familiar with the area, but I took a look around the area using Google Street view. Looks like a pretty nice neighborhood that looks new among what was previously a fairly economically depressed area. Is there a lot of crime around there?

Then there was a commenter at the bottom of the article-

Primarily blaming all the carry laws and us nut cases that are allowed to bear arms-

We just always want to whip out our gun and shoot at someone-

How about putting the blame exactly where it belongs-squarely on the shoulders of the shooter and leave the rest of us out of it-

Everybody should have gun rights, but not everybody should have guns. The risk is supporting the first part enables stupidity like this.

According to the article I read this morning, the family was NOT on the shooter's property. I hope they throw him in jail for a very long time. Even if there's a backstory, there's no excuse for shooting at people under those circumstances.

Mom taught at Central High many years ago. The stories of the kids from Birchwood were always entertaining.

It's attempted murder.  Of children.   IMO, the conclusion of this should be the death penalty if he's found guilty.

Birchwood pike is just up the road from me here in Harrison. It has a good deal of diversity as you drive one end to the other. Not too uncommon here in the county where you’ve got some nice homes on land mixed with trailers.

It’s a major thru way, heavier traffic than most and has more than its share of crime. just a couple miles away, it’s much quieter without any incident to note.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but that mug shot screams crazy old curmudgeon. Doesn’t it? Maybe ahead of the curve at 56.
