CZ P09c Nocturne Issues

Recommended Posts

I've been looking into the P09C as well. Just watched the Honest Outlaw review on YouTube... I'm hoping he got a lemon, but he had numerous FTF and FTE issues I. The first 300 rounds. Gonna check some more places. I'm really hoping he just had a freak experience, or maybe was an issue with optic screw length.

I watched most of his video where his wife kept getting failures. I thought that looked like operator error, but who knows. I think even with limp-wristing, the shorter screws you mentioned would help a lot.

I tend to disassemble and polish all the moving parts day 1 anyway, and I've never been one for optics, so I do foresee any issues. My problem is deciding do I wait for the second year of manufacture, or just get I now since its supposed to be pretty much just a new skin on the P07 I carry now.

Yeah... I definitely watching that video, and he did mention it in his top 5 or 10 disappointments of 2024, said he was still having issues without the optic. Maybe the damage was already done? Maybe a lemon? Really hope he follows up.

I don't know many P-07 owners who don't want one. I think it's the best new pistol CZ has come out with since the P-01, but maybe I'm biased. I am a CZ fan boy, can't deny it.

Oh, I already have one, just really wanting to head any issues of early. Great pistol and I absolutely love it.

So it wouldn't do any good to tell you its a terrible gun, and that you should get rid of it (by selling it to me) right away? Lol.  Have you got a P07 as well? If so, how do you think it compares? Have you done anything to it, springs, polish, maybe a cajun hammer?

Actually this is my first CZ. I haven't done any work to the CZ yet. I have been upgrading my Prodigy right now. CZ is next. Once I sell my Sig P320, that will find more of my other projects  and the CZ is near the top of that list.

CZ makes some good handguns, I've watched numerous you tube videos on different manufacturers and I don't put a lot of trust in most of them since some are paid in someway or another by some of the manufacturers to promote. I haven’t watched any of his videos so it's hard for me to say one way or the other, I'd rely more on the guys and gals who actually own them and get their opinions on it.

I am holding off on the Nocturne for now, but I know the Honest Outlaw was able to diagnose the issue as using too long of screw on the extractor side of the red dot. Gabe Suarez posted a video regarding having the same issue. Once the shorter mounting screw is installed, the problem disappears. It would be neat to see CZ come out with a ZEV post style mounting system but I know if that do that it will probably alienate those that prefer something other than RMR mount.

So I ordered one today, and I never took the time to get used to optics on a pistol, so thats one less thing that could wrong for me

We'll see in a week or so how it goes.

So I got my new P09 in... put a cajun hammer on it, polished the inner workings. Have not done a spring job yet, but there is already a marked improvement when dry firing (just finished the job this morning and the weather isn't cooperative to try live fire). Dropped a Hex Wasp red dot on it as well (taken off a Hellcat I just got from another member). Can't wait to put it through its paces. I've never really tried getting used to optics, so we'll see how that part of it goes.

I've been a P-07 Duty owner since release. I trust it more than any pistol I own.

Just picked up the P-09c this past week.  Not buying the hype and I'm confident that CZ will take care of me if there's a problem.

Should get some range time next weekend. No optic yet. I'll share my experience afterward.

Looking forward to a range report.

As promised, I took the compact nocturne to the range today.

"I feel very whelmed". That was the description I used to @BigK, since he was there with me (and also brought his P-09c). I want to like it and i'm really hoping that it just needs to break-in, but i'm not thrilled.

The most glaring issue for me was that the slide locked back with 1 round left in the mag several times. I did my best to try and track that down and think it only happened with the same mag, but it's hard to be sure. Perhaps i just need to strip down the mags and make sure the followers aren't doing something funky. My P-07 Duty came with a mag that had a wonky follower, so maybe.

The trigger shape isn't my favorite. I've got pretty good fundamentals so i ensure i use 3/4 pad on my index. The shape of the trigger seemed to allow my finger to slide across after full pull. In fact, it bit during one mag when my finger slipped. It cut/pinched me to say the least. It also seems to have a touch more recoil than the P-07, so perhaps that's not helping.

I also had a hard time with the sights. They're plenty clear but it was difficult to determine point of aim. I kept shooting low. I know that's supposed to be anticipation (dipping as i shoot), but I know better than this. A lot of my shots felt low. I immediately said "that's gotta be me" and loaded up a mag of the same ammo into my p-07. Every shot went exactly where I wanted it.

Overall I shot about 250 rounds today. Most of that through the P-09c. Assortment of brass federal, monarch, winchester whitebox and even threw in some garbage tula steel just to see if it would run. I think I had perhaps 3 incidents with the slide lock back overall mixed across the brands.

@BigK had several light primer strikes on some monarch ammo. Quite a few of them, but he feels confident it was the ammo. However, he also experienced the same last round lock back on his pistol which is extra concerning.

The P-07 Duty ran like top though and so did my P365 Tacops. So while I really want to buy myself a green dot to put on the P-09... that's not happening until I ensure it's gonna run.

It's going to get a good cleaning and maybe some parts polished. I've got a good quality boresight that'll help me figure out POA before I head back out again. I'm not giving up on it yet, but there's 0% chance that I will carry it in this current state.

As @NoBanStan said, I had a couple of issues with my P-09C today too. It only locked open with one round left in the mag once, but I had a LOT of light primer strikes. It might be the Monarch ammo, because it didn't happen when I switched to some cheap Blazer aluminum rounds. I also had a couple of incidents when it didn't wanna go into battery without a bump when changing mags too. That didn't give me the warm and fuzzies I was hoping for 1st time shooting it. As far as accuracy goes, I got my Holosun EPS dialed in within 2 or 3 rounds and it was as accurate and easy to shoot as I could ever hope for.

I'm guardedly optimistic that a good clean/lube and better ammo will give me more confidence in this gun, but for now, I sure as heck ain't gonna carry it.

It sucks. Every CZ I've ever touched has been iron clad. Maybe CGW will drop some parts that tune it up.

I wish I'd brought a wider range of ammo, like you did.

Well, I'm definitely taking it back out. I'll let you know when.
