Bass Pro fiasco

Came across an FN pistol I wanted. Had a bunch of gift cards from my ex that been sitting on the bench for a few years. Getting this FN from Bass Pro and using the cards would save me 100 bucks
So I ordered the thing online, the website says it’s in stock in Nashville. No one else had it that I usually do business with.

Pay for the thing, then find out in stock and available same day does not mean that they actually have it in stock, and it doesn’t mean that they have it for you to pick up on the same day, go figure. A week goes by I get an email telling me that it’s there and I can pick it up.

The store advertises they close at nine. I show up at 6:45, there’s a sign on the door that says they now close at eight. I go inside wait about 30 minutes for the clerk helping somebody else, explain to him on there to pick something up. Clark tells me I cannot pick it up because they now close at eight and it’s after seven and they never be able to get a TIC check done in time. Explain to him I live an hour and 15 minutes away from here, if they’re changing hours and have restrictions on pick up they should at least say something when they tell somebody to come to the store to pick up their order.

Clerk says give me a minute. He comes back out opens the computer so we can knock out the 4473. It is now 7:10 PM. I blow through the 4473 on their computer, TIC check comes back in five minutes all clear good to go.
I gave the clerk my drivers license, he looks at it says it’s expired I can’t use it. I explained to him it’s a CDL, DHS mails them to your home after you renew in person, it was valid when I made my purchase, it’s still valid, only the date on the card is off if someone wants to run it right now they would see it’s valid for another eight years or whatever it is. Bottom line is they made me run back-and-forth to my vehicle four times to grab everything from my HCP, vehicle registration and one other form of ID to get this done. It was after 8 o’clock when I finally got out of there. No thank you, no we appreciate your business, no thank you for your patience nothing. All they did was run my crap and make me read this basic safety document and sign off on it and that was it.

Was definitely not worth 100 bucks I saved to go through all the aggravation and BS standing there like an idiot for an hour waiting for them to figure out what they needed to do next.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe all I had to show them was a photo ID, and verify my address which I did with four different documents and IDs.
Bass Pro oughtta stick with selling worms and fishing poles cause buying a gun at that place is anything but nice…. I mean hell did I miss the memo or the warning post?

In a month or two you'll be enjoying your new firearm and all the hassle will be forgotten. There's no need to keep your blood pressure up over something that's now history. Personally, I've had good luck with Bass Pro and Cabella's, I'm sorry you had a tough time.

I've heard a lot of bad stories about buying firearms from BP. Makes me appreciate the pawn shop I use for my transfers. I'm rarely there for more than 15 minutes when I'm picking something up, but I get using your gift cards.

There was a guy I know 😉, A couple of years ago I, I mean he, was buying a new shotgun. He had recently moved and though he had updated his address with the state, he had not gotten a new license that reflected his new address. This is totally legal, and you are required to change your address with the state within 30 days of moving, but they do not issue a new license. Though the state doesn't require you to obtain a license reflecting your address change, (supposedly) an FFL can not use your DL for the transaction if the address is not correct. My friend asked if his hunting/fishing license could be used as his ID and the FFL said that it could. My friend then went into the TWRA app, updated his address, and showed the FFL a PDF of the license on his phone and got his shotgun. Gotta love government bureaucracy.

Fun fact: a passport can not be used as ID to purchase a firearm because it doesn't list your address. Travel most anywhere in the world? Sure. Just not good enough for ID to buy a gun, unlike a state issued fishing license that can be updated on the fly.

I thought someone requiring you to show an id was racist 🤔

Not necessarily talking about buying a gun, but I cannot for the life of me understand why an expired ID isn’t good enough for identification. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard someone say I can’t accept this id, it’s expired.  I mean, are suddenly a different person if it’s expired?  You’re still the same person identified in the document. I used to think it was was dumbass clerks that made these decision, but I realized that much of the time, it’s dumbass government employees.

I made the mistake of visiting Bass Pro Shop a few years back and they beckoned me to take a chance on a free boat drawing.  I lost, of course, but it took me almost a year to stop the calls and texts on my phone for a vacation package, timeshare or whatever.

Then one time I was looking for reloading equipment and they wouldn't let me carry my concealed pistol through the store.  I had to either surrender the weapon to a manager or have a security guard escort me while browsing the merchandise.

Now I spit at them every time I drive pass the place.

That all sounds super annoying. What did you end up buying? Hopefully you are at least happy with the gun.

We have 2 Bass Pro's in Memphis of which I usually frequent the one closest-

Last time I was trying to purchase an ambi safety for an AR15-under lock and key behind glass-

Time consumed trying to wrangle an employee with a key and then was told that item has to go behind gun counter until ready to check out-

So now I am at gun counter waiting while a couple of chuckle heads try to figure out how the bolt in a Savage 110 goes back in that customer removed to inspect-more time consumed-

Now am told to go down to far cash register and the employee down there would check you out-more time consumed-

I stood at said cash register for 10 minutes listening to employee hash over breakfast with whom I assume is a relative or friend-more time consumed-I got so pissed off I had to leave-without the safety-

I e-mailed customer service and explained my ire to only get a we are sorry you had a bad experience-

My daughter is a co-manager at Bass Pro Pyramid and I suppose I could have pulled rank and explained why I will no longer spend any money at Bass Pro-but I don't feel like I should ambush her-

PS-I order or buy all my firearms lately at Range USA-easy order system-
