what would happen if there was no infringement as the Constitution says?

I'm pretty sure someone here on TGO would have a working tank with live rounds parked in their barn before the ink dried.....聽 馃檪

So you're assuming that the NFA also goes away along with its enforcement arm?聽 I'm not sure that's how it would happen.聽

I didn't see anything in that article about what happens with the A, T, and E parts of their responsibilities. Those will have to be addressed as I don't think anyone really wants unregulated explosives.聽

ATF doesn't need to be abolished. They actually do serve a purpose. What they need is to redefine their objectives and stop being used as a political weapon for gun control. There are real bad guys out there illegally trafficking in guns. They need to be arrested. But leave the average gun owner and the LGS alone. Most of all, enforce the laws as written. They don't need to be "interpenetrated" to mean whatever you want them to.聽馃が

If ATF were abolished, that would mean their duties would have to be passed to another federal agency. Most likely the FBI. Are you sure you want that?聽

Granted, the abolishment of ATF would not throw off every restraint that the National Firearms Act of 1934 and the Gun Control Act of 1968 imposes upon the gun trade and gun owners.聽 Those laws would have to be repealed or amended by Congress and the president's signature for there to be wide open, free possession and sale of all classes of firearms.聽

I haven't read Bobert's proposed bill (and may not be able to understand all of the lawyer talk in it) but hopefully we wouldn't have to put up with all of the cumbersome restrictions that the bureaucrats in charge of the ATF can quickly impose upon us because of new technology (ie. bump stocks) or incidents of national tragedy (school shootings, etc.).

Great point! Both agencies are too susceptible to political strong arming, but the FBI actually seems worse.
