REM. 870 Magazine Problem

I am installing a mag. extention on my 870 and I can't get the magazine spring retainer to go into the extention. At the top of the magazine on the 870 is two little stoppers that stop the spring retainer from going through. I have thought about grinding the retainer down or maybe grinding the stoppers off. Any ideas on how to solve this problem.

Thanks for any help,

It is there to keep people from putting magazine conversions on the "civilian" shotguns.

The way I usually bypass it is to just drill out the detents, then clean up the inside of the tube for the holes with a dremel.

Trying to dremel out the detents is too big a PITA. When you reassemble the tube and put the magazine cap on, you can't even see the holes.

Done this about a dozen times for my guns and customers and friends.

I actually grinded mine down and it works well but it took some time. When my nefew is ready to work on his I may go with the drilling method.
