Family pistols

Guns handed down by family members are some of our most cherished. I’m sure many of you will have examples to show here. I have my Dad’s first rifle, a Stevens single shot.22 and a Remington semi auto.22 given to me by my grandfather.  Yesterday my father gave me his Smith and Wesson model 19-4 Combat magnum. I have memories of seeing it safely protected in his bedside table drawer but have never shot it. He said he thinks he only fired it once or twice. Still looks like new.

That is a great family heirloom! My great grandfather Teal was the sheriff of Barbour County Alabama (Eufaula/Clayton) back in the 1890-1920s. One day a prisoner's wife bought a cake to the jail house for her husband.  Grandpa said "This cake is so big we should share it with everybody." When he cut open the cake he found a Smith and Wesson .32 break top revolver in it. We called it the cake gun. My grandmother gave it to me when I lived in East Nashville. It was stolen and I never saw it again.

I still get upset when I think about it. You take care of that revolver, ya hear?

This is not the pistol......

I have a few guns that are real junkers but being handed from family makes them priceless.

Beauty! That's a real keeper, for sure.

I have some of dad's guns. They were divided between my brother and I.  My father was all about function, meaning accuracy.  He modified every thing, to suit him, so their value has been greatly diminished.  But I have four boys who will get them someday.

They all want his Remington Rand 45. It was his hardball gun, when he was shooting National Match Course in the 60s.
