Backyard Range Improvements

I just finished building a small deck on the back of my house. I had material left over so I had 2 tables that I made 20 years ago. I decided to clean them with a high-pressure washer, then apply Thompsons Water Sealer. While I was at it, I decided to replace the top on them. I had some Trek flooring left, from the deck, so it installed new tops on both tables. They looked good afterwards. The old tops were made with Yellow Wood and had become weathered and rough.

Yesterday I walked to the range with he intention of practicing some.  I have several spots that have very thin grass and when it is wet, I have a mud problem. I stood there for a few minutes and then remembered that my son-in-law had previously brought me a load of gravel to spread on the driveway. I had him dump a small pile, of the chip size gravel, for future use. I got my wheelbarrow and proceeded to haul loads of grave and put a thin coat of gravel all around the newly remodeled table area so we would not be forced to stand on mud while shooting in wet weather.

I also installed an angled "rifle wing" on the shooting range table so we could put my Led Sled on it and scoot up without being in a strain when firing. I am a righty, so I lengthened the right side of the tabletop and proceeded to add 17" of additional angled tabletop to it. Now I just set my seat over next to the extension and am in total comfort while mounting the rifle and looking through the scope. The extension works rather well for rifle shooting and is a total compliment to the Led Sled.

Now I can comfortably go out in any weather condition and not worry about cleaning mud from my shoes or messing up my wife's carpet afterwards. Improvements are always satisfying. OH, the things we do when in a state of boredom. I was home by myself, and all our holiday company has gone back to their homes. We had 24 eat at our home on New Years Day. It was an occasion in honor of my sisters-in-law 80th b-day party. My wife had taken SIL to the shoe store to purchase a b-day gift for her.

I slept good last evening guys. "We Were Tired!" I am sore this morning but have a good feeling of accomplishment so I thought I would share it with you guys.  What did you guys do yesterday?

Nice! I have mud problems too. I spent a lot of time (probably too much time) last summer installing a DIY culvert made of cinder blocks to redirect a seasonal river and digging drainage ditches to redirect the surface water. This spring will be the first test and I am sure I'll have to tweak a few things. So far the culvert has just provided shelter for the skunks, lol.
