Best place for Canadian Geese?

Recommended Posts

My son has requested that we hunt Canadian Geese for the first time come September. What area in Tennessee do I need to be in and best place to set up a pop-up blind. I would like to make it happen for him if possible. He's 10.

Following. I didn’t do much research into the subject but I always thought Canadian geese were “migratory birds” or something like that and thus not able to be hunted. I did minimal research, reaching to see if anyone has an answer. Thanks.

TN has a large population of resident geese.  There are a few migrators late January, but mainly seen in W TN.  The local geese can be very tough to hunt this time of year.  Decoy shy, very flock smart.  Best way is scout them out, preferably on farm land and ponds.  I will check with my son in W. TN to see if anyone is specifically hunting Canadas.

Canadian geese are only in Canada.

Canada geese can be found in many states.

I guess I was so used to being up north that I never really thought about it.

So the ones that start to fly over Davidson county around September or October I’m their Flying V formation, are those fair game? Feel like I always see them some time around the fall solstice for a few weeks at a time.

All the hunters I know hunt Central IL Cans,Blues,Whites all in one day.  Most go for a couple days and use  a guide.     Even if it is only once in a lifetime trip you can bag a lot of geese. It is close by and a guide and a couple days lodging wont break the bank.

Canadians are people….. Canadas are geese.

Those geese you see flying around are mostly going from one Walmart parking lot to another.

Do you have a place or link for this by chance?

Several of the guys  lived on my street hunted but I moved and lost touch with them. You can start with Google search     Central IL goose hunts and it will bring up Lodges-Guides -one/two day hunts -prices.  Good luck I duck hunted for 30 years on Wis. border  and the rare time geese would give us a shot was a big thrill.  IL.has a very generous bag limit on geese.

Spring Snows could be fun as well, those hunts are crazy and pretty much unlimited. For September you will more than likely need to head north. Most of the birds will still be in Canada at that point still, otherwise you will have teal and local birds. If you want birds in TN you will need to head west or again find some local birds which will be more difficult for sure. If you could go a bit later I would try for ND or SD in middle October and you could do ducks/geese and pheasants!
