When you go to the range (or hunting), do you put your rifle and ammo near each other? If you have a truck like I do, do you simply put them in the back and passenger seats as opposed to having them flop around in the bed?

Then like me, you are breaking current law.

Under current law, if you have both a long arm and the ammunition in your vehicle, even if the weapon itself is unloaded, the law considers it to be loaded unless you have them separate.

The House passed a clean fix for this, if you have a HCP you can have a loaded long-arm. In the Senate Judiciary Committee, responding to anti-gunner Sen. Kyle, Sen. Jackson inserted an amendment which restricts this to ONLY a motor vehicle owned by the HCP holder. Ever gone hunting/to the range with a friend, in the friends car? Had to use a rental? The Senate version won't cover you.

What we need to do, is send our e-mails and phone calls to our House Reps and let them know that here the Senate was wrong, and not to concur with the Senate. Then, we need to tell the Senate to back off, and take the House version, which was clean. The Senate is far more pro-gun than the House, if we make our voices heard loudly this is something we can fix before it becomes law and requires more work to change it next session.

Well. when it looks like you won't get your way, obfuscate, tell lies, change the subject, whatever it takes to muddy the waters. Heck, I raised five teenagers, I know the game that they play in Nashville and in D.C.

No need to get too upset. The support in the Judiciary committee was waivering a little. Jackson took the Kyle amendment to get the bill to the senate floor. Expect the senate and house bills to go to a conference committee which will report the house version.

The bill does not just allow a hunter with a HCP holder to transport a long gun with ammo within reach. It allows a HCP holder to transport a loaded shotgun or rifle (even with a loaded chamber and/or magazine) for any purpose. The question came up about a public bus or cab. Thus, the amendment.
