I hate reading crap like this, and it makes me very mad to say the least. I don't have any kids of my own but I do have niece and two nephews and I am the oldest of 12 kids (4 boys and 8 girls). 4 biological and 8 adopted. The 8 went through some of the same and some worse things before we got them.

These people................arg....I just....I'm at a loss for words.

A Maryville couple is facing charges after deputies found their children alone in a trailer.

Paul Frederick Hardtke and Victoria Rose Kidwell, both 28, were arrested on child abuse and neglect charges Friday, said Blount County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Marian O'Briant

BCSO deputies responded to their trailer at Big Z Drive on a welfare check. Neighbors reported a young girl was screaming for her mother, Kidwell, at the front door.

According to O'Briant, Kidwell was at a neighbor's home playing video games. Hardtke, the father, was at work.

The girl, who was 5 years old, answered the door when a deputy arrived at the scene. He noticed a very strong foul odor, said O'Briant.

Inside the trailer, a 3-year-old boy was wearing only a dirty diaper and had bugs crawling all over him. Trash, bugs, and feces were everywhere in the trailer. Deputies weren't sure if the feces was human or animal.

The Department of Children's Services took the children to a foster home, according to O'Briant.

Kidwell and Hardtke also were charged with drug possession. They are being held on a $10,000 bond. A hearing is scheduled in Blount County General Sessions Court on May 6.

This doesn't surprise me....I (unfortunately) see this kind of atleast once a week....you would be AMAZED at how people live and treat their children...and their animals....it's really disgusting....and it's hard to deal with....most of these people were "raised" this way and they don't "know" any better...it's sad....very sad. The most disappointing fact is...that these children will grow up and think that it is OK to live in filth...again....they don't "know" any better.........grrrrrrr

Having a 3 year old little boy, when I read stuff like this it makes me absolutely sick. I can't believe their bail was only set at $10K!? When it involves children, especially the young ones who can't defend themselves or realize what they are living in, it should have been set way higher, or even no bail at all. I'm sure some will disagree, but as a parent, there's no excuse for this!!
