United Healthcare CEO Assassination

Yeah everybody’s saying it was a James Bond professional hit man.  I think a pro would make sure his gun ran before attempting something that brazen.

Definitely not a pro. Left his shell casings and still had a good amount of his face exposed. He's going to be caught.

I expect that we will discover that this is a handmade silencer. I also think that in light of that, he made a deliberate decision to manually cycle, the pistol, instead of attempting to manufacture a Nelson device to provide the requisite back pressure necessary to cycle a silenced pistol. His target was in Midtown Manhattan, and the likelihood of encountering any sort of armed response, was extremely low.

That said, I do not believe based upon the reporting available that this was a pro. This was very likely a highly motivated individual with a personal act to grind who put a lot of planning into the assassination. The casings found at the scene had “deny“ “defend“ and “depose“ written on them. It is believed that it is a reference to this book.

https://delaydenydefend.com/

While this particular solution isn’t in the book, it does appear that the assassin took the subtitle too heart and decided to do something about it.

The online reaction has been something to watch. The Internet as a whole has pretty much zero sympathy for the deceased, and in many cases is expressing quite a lot of glee regarding the events. I doubt seriously that those in the industry will engage in any amount of introspection with regards to why the public has reacted the way they have, but I will be highly interested in this trial if they do catch him alive.

I expect that his defense attorneys will put UHC and by proxy the entire insurance industry on trial. This guy could very well turn into a Marvin Heemeyer style folk hero, but at a much larger scale. Most people don’t have much of a beef with their local governments.  The number of people who feel that the health insurance industry have wronged them easily numbers into the tens of millions, if not most of the country.

I'm also seeing zero empathy for the victim. In fact, I've seen several memes showing the name and picture of several other health insurance company CEOs. After all, who hasn't wanted to shoot their health insurance provider at some point?

Another point being made is that people get shot in N.Y. everyday. But because this guy was very rich, NYPD is pulling out all the stops to solve this. That's being used as another point against the victim.

While I'd never condone murder, it seems that general opinion is shaping up like the victim deserved it. If they catch the shooter, he may well be applauded as a hero. God forbid that he get killed by police. Then he'll be a martyr.

Makes sense, but it looks like he was struggling to eject one of the spent cases and he supposedly left behind three live rounds in addition to the empty brass.  Maybe practice a little or make a couple dry runs first before the next scheduled assassination.

I would attribute the live rounds to knowing it’s not a guaranteed cycle so choosing to manually cycle it each time regardless. I mean, if I had a single target and was using the same equipment, I wouldn’t quibble about a few wasted rounds to ensure my shots counted. Still, first shot hit him in the calf so we aren’t exactly talking about John Wick here.

End results do speak for themselves though.

Not to mention that the harshest condemnation I’ve seen about this has been “I’m not saying I condone it, but I understand.”

I noticed the same thing on Reddit. I feel bad for the man's family. He had two children and a wife.

Everything I've heard (this is without seeking it out) is the guy got what he deserved.  Not my opinion mind you, just the vibe I've observed.

I do feel for the man’s family. This has got to be a terrible situation for them and a horrible loss personally.

On the other hand, this sentiment,

doesn’t come from nowhere. For evidence of that, may I present exhibit a:

however, it does appear that others in the industry might actually be taking the hint.

I'll bet that damn near nothing we supposedly know right no will turn out to be accurate in a few weeks.

It’s all very neat, maybe a little too much so. I will give you that.

On the other hand, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

However, I can pretty much guarantee that the fervent prayer in every C suite in the industry is that this turns out to be about anything at all other than how UHC did business. like if it were to turn out to be a professional hint because of some sort of personal peccadillo, you would be able to hear the sighs of relief from NYC all the way in your house.

Murder is never a reasonable solution. I have huge empathy for his family. They're living their worst nightmare right now.

The shooter is definitely an amateur with an axe to grind. A pro would have been invisible.

That said, having personally gone to war more than once with UHC over claim and treatment denials, I have no love for the system he administers.

They F with people's lives for money that isnt theirs in the first place. They employ quack doctors who lost their license to review treatment for people they'll never see.

Like banks, they're a leach. They provide very little value and suck billions out of the system. They're a parasite.

Violence is never the answer, but like the events of January 6th, if this sends a message to remind certain people who their customers are and the power they hold, I hope some good comes of it.

This guy is toast. They got a full shot of his face. I suspect he'll be identified in the next 24 hours or less.

I don’t know, I think it might take a little longer than that.

Yeah, that’s a piece of information from the NYPD that I would put hard money down. Will turn out to be false. They are staying 100% on brand with regards to their history of not knowing anything about guns.

It's an updated reproduction of a WWII wetworks pistol. It has to be manually cycled.

The part about the manner in which it cycles that the nimrods at the NYPD miss is that you have to twist the back end to unlock the action to be able to pull the bolt back to cycle it. It does not match the way the assassin was operating the pistol that he had.
