Soldiers aren't being fed?

I鈥檒l say this then hunker down鈥as the military ever been a model of efficiency and judicious use of resources?聽

Whoever commands Fort Carson needs to go, but I know my sometimes idealistic outlook on things don鈥檛 always jive with reality.

It's especially frustrating to think of a single member of our military being inadequately fed or housed when millions are getting better food and housing for free and they give nothing in return.

Disappointed to read that story.聽 I hope NCOs there are making sure their soldiers get fed, one way or another.聽 Those NCOs should also be writing letters to their congressman asking him to initiate a congressional inquiry into the officers' actions.聽聽

Not really, but during my time in, food was at least plentiful if not fine dining.聽 I remember being a new soldier to post, having no car, and walking to every meal.聽 Thankfully the chow halls were only a few blocks away.聽 But that was when before consolidation became a thing with military dining facilities.

DoD can't pass an audit at the department level, so maybe they can start small and answer why funding for the chow halls on an Army post aren't at or above what's being collected from BAS pass through via meal card holders, or off post soldiers eating on base (this was usually breakfast 9/10 times I did it).

Those kiosks mentioned in the article are a joke.聽 Little more than what you see at a Twice Daily or a Speedy Cafe.聽 They're a horrible try and look good solution to a real problem.聽

It's telling these issues keep coming up for the Army.聽 I don't recall hearing any Navy/Marine Corps bases having issues, and I'm damn sure the Air Force isn't having chow problems.聽 This is an Army leadership problem.聽 General officers and SES civilians should be getting fired, but I'm not holding my breath.

As an Air Force vet, I agree. 聽In my day, the USAF really took great pains to make sure the barracks, chow halls and other base facilities were top notch. The philosophy of leadership was kind of like, take care of the troops and the troops will take care of the mission. Whenever there was any kind of issue with the food or hours, command was really quick to get involved. 聽I worked with many army guys both with me at army bases and them with me at USAF bases, and we all agreed that the Air Force had great food. 聽Typically they served four meals. Day. 聽The fourth being what they called midnight chow, which was for night workers mostly. 聽That鈥檚 when I usually had breakfast. 聽But back to the point, I have read that the air Forde is having these issues too. 聽Generals being more concerned about dei recruitment and training will result in lack of money/concern in other areas.

Back when I was in the Army (72-75), we were short on just about everything except food. They did feed us good.聽

I can't imagine an Army that can't manage to give its soldiers a decent meal and it pisses me off royally!聽馃が

On an aircraft carrier on Yankee Station off the coast of Vietnam, we could eat all we wanted 24/7.聽 However, depending upon your billet, sailors in the "modern" Navy may have a few meager meals.聽 I read that some ate frozen burritos for breakfast.聽 I'm sure that Ukranian fighting men have to go without, too, in spite of the billions we send to keep them alive.

I read this last night and I was really angry! I can鈥檛 believe the ridiculous p. r. responses from leadership at Carson and Ft Hood!聽
Never in my 20 plus years of service did I see this blatant disregard for soldiers. If leaders can鈥檛 feed their soldiers remove them and put somebody in leadership positions that can do the job! Even deployed I never starved. The 1st Sergeant would deliver food to the remote sites in mermite cans with a 1/4 ton jeep to make sure you were fed. No Sergeant Major worth his salt would allow these soldiers to go hungry. Times have definitely changed. I don鈥檛 recall ever leaving a Mess hall hungry in the past. Not exactly gourmet food but filling.聽
If command leadership can鈥檛 take care of soldiers fire them! Give all these young soldiers their food rations money back, their meal card isn鈥檛 worth crap!

there is absolutely no excuse for this. We have seen many shortfalls in the VA system but for the mess hall to not have enough food to feed the troops is beyond reason. The articles mention the base takes in 22 million but only spent 5 million? I don't care how much you have to throw out, make sure our soldiers have enough to eat. As was once said, "an Army travels on it's stomach". I cannot express my furor.

to back up my anger, this was just sent. Thank you @Grayfox54聽for bringing this to my attention. Were I in Nevada I would be taking things a bit further.

Dear Senator Blackburn,
Please expedite the solution to food shortages at Fort Carson and investigate whether this is happening at any of our other military installations. Ther is absolutely no excuse for our soldiers to not have sufficient meals. I am not placing blame on you or your office, I am proud of your accomplishments and look forward to the next term. As a taxpayer, voter, and veteran I believe that someone must be held accountable.
I wish you and your family a happy Thanksgiving. While we celebrate I will pray that our soldiers recieve a good meal.
Thank You,
Mark Parkhurst

The Army seems to be the bottom of the barrel as far as quality goes. I have been to a some week long Drug Schools that were being held on Navy bases. We (police) were staying in their barracks and eating in their dining halls. Their food was awesome and their barracks looked great. Then I went to an Interview and Interrogation class at an Army base in Mississippi . The food tasted like it was all instant , the eggs were powdered eggs , and all the buildings looked like they were built back in the 50's. So I guess it depends on which branch of military it is. They should all get equal treatment as far as I am concerned.聽
