Whats your take on the new Viper? I handled one Friday at the LGS with a 4.25 barrel and have to say I really, really liked it. I think a 3" barrel with some walnut D frame service stocks and a grip adapter may be about as close to an all around handgun as I could find for my personal use. I also handled several flavors of Pythons with the service stocked 2.5" being my favorite and the new Kodiak and Grizzly (I think). These new Colts are built right and they are gonna give S&W some competition in my opinon.

imo it’s a bit more than competition. Smith sat on its laurels, don’t correctly build to the old standard, and decided to drop all q/a. While Colt has put a concerted effort into its revolvers and has surpassed Smith with out-of-the-box build.

And of course, there is that silly lock thing 😉

I have nearly 100 SW collectible revolvers….none have the ‘lock’ and I wouldn’t buy one that did. They definitely killed their value to collectors.

All of my Pony's are older guns. I haven't really seen many of the new generation yet. 🙄

However, I'm very interested in the 3" Viper and if they make the new Anaconda in .45 Colt, I'll absolutely buy one. 😃

I have not handled a Viper, but the Colts I have are amazing. The workmanship fir and finish exceded my expectations.

I love OLD Smith and Wesson Pre Lock revolvers. I asked them to make me a new custom one withouy a Pre Lock, they said no. That just reinforced my love for the new Colts.
