Ankle holster reccomendations

Recommended Posts

Posted

So Ive found myself lately in wearing a lot of tucked in dress shirts and western wear type clothing at church and nicer events. My normal go to is pocket carry but my preffered Wrangler Wrancher slacks dont have pockets that work well for a j frame. Does anyone have a solid reccomendation for an ankle holster that will work with cowboy boots or any other ideas? Ive got a tuckable appendix rig on order but I dont hold out much hope for it tucking well enough for what I have in mind.

Galco Ankle Glove is the go to for most in the know.  Go in your boots with gun and  gun shop staff will let you try it out

That Galco looks like a nice holster, but damn its pricey. I use one thats Cordura and velcro. Maybe $40, fits many different guns and is quite comfortable to wear. I like to use it when on my motorcycle.

I’ve never had good luck with an ankle holster and cowboy boots. It’s either way too high on the leg to be practical or too bulk at the actual ankle to cover the holster.

For deep concealment I’ve moved to the PHLster Enigma with a sports belt. I was even able to wear it effectively without a shirt at a water park this summer.

Not sure of the brand but make sure it is well padded. I also have a mag holster that I wear on the other ankle to offset the weight of the firearm side. It can change your gait over time.

Check out the Bugbite, it isn't ankle but calf/leg. Not too bad, I've used it several times when I needed to go tucked shirt without a blazer or suit coat.

I don't carry a full size in it, and I don't wear those skinny pants so no issue.

It sure looks secure enough, seems like you would have to hike your pants leg kinda far though.

It is tad bit more than the ankle holster. I carried an ankle holster with a glock 27 for years in my patrol days. I usually only have this on with dress pants which seem thinner, and you pull the pants with your non-dominant hand and draw the gun with your dominant hand. Like everything it is personal preference, and I don't use it daily.

Tom Givens once recommended a Desantis Apache to me.  I picked one up and found it useful for the rare occasion I ankle carried.
