It's been a while since posting anything (here or TNSpeed) but wanted to check in and read a bit.

Watching the state of things lately, being in the sticks of the panhandle of FL is quite enlightening, especially hearing the 'talk' that goes on about the country's current political situation. So yeah, I bought into the SHTF theories of late, and ran out and picked up an AR-15. Zeroed it this morning in the back yard using a 30 dollar gun show knock off of the "grip pod" bipod foward grip. For back yard/range plinking, didn't do too shabby :D

Idea behind the build: A dual purpose, CQ and moderate range rifle. Item of choice: Armalite M15, 16" midlength, heavy barrel. Considering recent prices, item availability (especially barrels), I was able to pick this up just under a grand, and so far I'm quite please with it.

Not to leave anything alone, I picked up some tools and off to work I went. Modifications:

LMT Bolt Carrier Group (wasn't a huge fan of the factory Armalite staking job, in the spare parts box it goes)

Daniel Defense Lite Rail 10.0

Larue low profile gas block

Laure/Magpul UDE (Ugly Dark Earth - Luv It) kit

PWS FSC556 comp/flashider (damn nice!)

Magpul MBUS sights and trigger guard

Mostly magpul mags, couple of Cproducts, stock Armalite mag

To finish it off for me: Timney drop in trigger @ 4lb is next on the list. There's a bit of creep, while not terribly distracting, distracting enough to me, and the Timney is the fix. No need for fancy 2 stage triggers for me. Noveske 14.5 Afghan barrel. Can't go wrong there, and most likely will do much much better than the standard 16" on it. Yeah, I'll have to permanently attach the comp/FH, but I shouldn't have to worry about that barrel once installed.

I know some may have issues with Armalite, but upper/lower fit finish was pretty damn tight considering. I eyeballed a few Bushmaster and Oly's that were as loose as a young lady on Dickerson Rd. While I have more than most would consider prudent in it, it's a useable, fightable rifle that I'm extremely confident with.

Pics (taken after zeroing)

(old pic hosting crashed I guess...)

Cheers, and good to see ya'll still active up that-a-ways...

As an afterthought, I've left out the optics part. I'm kind of waiting on reviews of the IOR 'Pitbull' 1x or 4x switchable before I jump on anything. I'm more of an Aimpoint fan vs the Eotechs (not starting anything there) but for what I'm wanting out of this rifle, the features of the IOR fits the bill perfect. I just don't want to pony up the 1100 to be the test mule for it...

1 & 4 PITBULL

Here's a shot of both rifles now, I picked up the SGW Monday evening. A plus when I picked it up, has a hard chromed BCG.... :pleased:
