Souter has been as liberal as any Dem appointed justice.

He voted against Heller, your lovely Bush Sr. appointed justice did.

So shouldn't make a lot of diff, at least on gun control issues, who replaces him.

While it will be one liberal replacing another, and won't change the makeup of the court, Obama will probably appoint someone in their 40s and we'll be stuck with them for decades.

That being said, we have an outside chance of ending up with our own version of Souter (Bush I) or Kennedy (Reagan) - someone who morphed into the opposite of what they were appointed.

I sure wish he had made this choice in early '08 so that W could have appointed his replacement but since he is a leftie I'm sure this was his intention all along.

We will now be stuck for decades with someone who is solidly on the left and sure to be on BHO's side of the issue if any of the lawsuits concerning his eligibility to be president ever make it all of the way to the SCOTUS.
