Who are you gonna call?

Local Nashville Law Enforcement, based on my recent interactions and my personal opinion, will not be the Accurate Source for firearms issues in Davidson County. I assumed I could rely on our Constitutional Sheriff to add clarity when Metro police are obviously wrong.
Nope. Davidson County Sheriff Officer stated, “Our agency does not arrest or enforce firearm laws within the County/City.”. They referred me back to Metro.

That sent a chill down my spine. Previously, I assumed the Sheriff would be an Accurate Source and resource when issues arise between Citizens and metro law enforcement.

Who are you gonna call?

You've made two posts about this and I still don't understand your point. Ok, they have rules about discharging firearms within the county. Beyond that, I'm lost. 🙄

Call the DA's office.

Its not the police department's job to understand or interpret the nuances of law.  They just do what they're told.

I’m not sure if you’re asking a question or informing, but I can state with certainty that a sheriff’s deputy is by no measure a legal scholar.

Mark In Hermitage, I think maybe you might be under the impression that The Davidson County sheriff and deputies are responsible for law enforcement in this county.  They are not.  They pretty much just run the jails.  May still also do evictions, etc,  but general law enforcement in the county is by the metro PD, except in those few areas within the county that still have their own PD, like Goodlettsville, Belle Meade and a few others.  Most other county sheriffs enforce the law in parts of their county that doesn’t have city PDs.  Sumner County is a good example of that.

Defender is correct. In Davidson County some years ago they adopted a Metropolitan Government charter taking all law enforcement away from the Sheriff's Office and placing it on the Police Department. Metro PD has county wide jurisdiction with what is known as satellite cities that existed prior to the Metro Charter that decided to remain that have their own departments and municipal governments.  I don't know what kind of information or questions you are wishing to have answered or obtain might be helpful.

The OP came here to pitch a fit, he has said his peace and left, not be back since. If he is in Hermitage he will get into trouble for firing a firearm in the area.

County Sheriff, as others have posted, run the jails, serve warrants, and evictions. The work I do puts me in jail at times, more than once I have seen more than a few rather LARGE men dressed in gear getting into a van going out to serve a warrant.

MNPD watch the roads and uphold the law.

I always thought it seemed redundant to have both a police dept as well as a sheriff’s dept in n a metropolitan county. Are they both really necessary?

Trousdale County did the metro and just has the sheriff's office. Seems to work out fine. I'm sure it just wouldn't fly many places because of the politics and refusal to give up power.

I think they still have a police chief and a sheriff, but I may be wrong.

From what I can see, across the whole country, sheriffs seem more focused on the law and the constitution than politics.

That's because most if not all sheriffs are elected.  Police chiefs are appointed, political positions.

No, the chief deputy at the sheriff's office is the former police chief.
