Davidson County Firearms on Private Property

Recommended Posts

General Services District rules changed for discharging on your property. They were revised to require prior permission from homeowners or tenants within 500’ from where you discharge. I’ve attached a screenshot from the municipal website. Final action on the revision dated 6/20/23.

Dave Rosenberg, Erin Evan’s and Joy Stiles sponsored the revision.

This appears to apply whether hunting on your private property or just plinking.

I made an initial Nashville HUB submission to verify Section 11.12.080 Municipal Code and was told INCORRECTLY that “No shooting anywhere in Davidson County unless it’s at an indoor range.

I now know that’s only true in the Urban Services District. See attached.

Also know that the Davidson County Sheriff was no help in clarifying the erroneous statement from the Nashville HUB. They referred me back to Metro saying, “Our agency does not arrest or enforce firearm laws within the County/City.”.

My advice is to study the District Services Map, to ensure you’re NOT in the Urban Services District and then start schmoozing your neighbors.

Sir both of your posts about this are somewhat confusing. It’s hard to tell if you are asking a question or trying to inform us about something. No snark or sarcasm intended, I’m genuinely curious about your topic, but confused by your post.

I used to work in that area as far as I know in the general services district you just can't shoot at night (30 minutes after dusk to 30 minutes before sunrise). I just checked the ordinance it still says that exact. No permission from neighbors is needed. If you have something that shows different, please let me know so I can let friends know.

Mark:
This is incorrect.  There was an attempt by Rosenburg to severely limit shooting.  It was not well thought out.  I interceded and he confirmed the info I provided him and did not move forwards.
However, I would not be surprised if something similar does not come up again.  There are some properties who are simply doing too much shooting and it is interfering with neighbors.  Some are already illegal (shooting at night, while drunk, while partying) but those also negatively reflect on reasonable gun owners.  Others are holding paid firearms practice sessions for large classes every single Sunday.  It is running an unreasonable business just 30' from existing homes.  It isn't reasonable for those adjacent property owners to never get to have a quiet Sunday.
I hope we as gun owners will be responsible, reasonable and empathetic.  I let my neighbors know when I'm going to be doing target practice.  If they were to tell me they were planning a family gathering that day, I'd just pick another day, yanno?  I have great neighbors.
Currently, you can shoot within the General Services District with restrictions i.e. dusk and others.  You can find your district by using the maps.nashville.gov/parcelviewer site.  Under Tax District, it will either be USD or GSD.  Of course, you can never be recklessly endangering people downrange.

I shoot sometimes on my property in Rutherford County. Have no neighbors real close. My yard is 300' across the back and I guess another 300' from my property line to the nearest house. I don't shoot before 8AM and after 6 PM. Never had any problems with my neighbors. Been doing this for 40 years.

I rent at near year 2000 rate.  Wish I’d bought years ago outside Davidson county. Kinda stuck here now til I win the lottery.  Dream of having one in the country where I could go out on my porch and shoot  and also have an outdoor range like Hickok45 has.
