Well, it DOES say Off Topic... :D

I have always been a blade guy. Now, I'm going to need to pick up an electric shaver... yuck. Anyway, of the two basic types, the Braun single head type or the Norelco multi head type, what works best for you? I only stated those brands to more clearly express the types. Any brand suggestions would be appreciated, as well.

I'm a Norelco guy. Have been for decades.

The "floating heads" do a decent job of adhering to the graceful curves of my face. :D

When you find out how much electric razors suck, and you go back to blades, get a Mach III. I've tried every blade under the sun and I always wind up going back to the Mach.

RBC, I know, I know, they suck compared to a blade. I need to consider this option for some upcoming travel, though. Looks like the nod around here is to Norelco. Doesn't Philips make a similar model, too? Any experience with them? Or is Norelco the "Les Baer" of electric shavers?

Trust me, go with the norelco...those suckers LAST! the blades don't wear out as quickly and they're just better built..

Norelco is made by Philips.

I've never had to replace a set of blades. The last Norelco lasted about 10 years. I really like the rechargeables.

And Norelco shavers are quiet. Some of the competition sounds like a vibratory sander.

I've tried shifting back to blade razors at times, and sometimes I'm in places where that makes more sense than packing in an electric gadget. For my beard, the electric razor seems to work as well as a blade. Either way, your skin has to get used to what is shaving it.

The one thing I found out when in the past I have used an electric razor is that I need to use it twice a day. One the hair on my face reached a certain length the electric would not do a very good job anymore. Using it in the morning and then about 12 hours later and it worked as good as a manual blade.

I try to not shave much, as I haven't needed to due the recent employment. I do, however, have a 7300 series Braun (with the little base station that charges/cleans). It got good reviews, but you need to use it probably a couple weeks to get used to it, and let your face get used to it. There is a company called "Williams" that makes a product called "'Lectric Shave"... this seems to make the hairs stand up more to let them be cut more easily. I have some... it works. However, I have 3 Mach 3's and 2 Fusions (I like the powered ones) as well.

FWIW, my dad always used Norelco's... I don't ever remember seeing a blade in the drawer (before he passed away...) I still have some of his razors from the 80's and early 90's, and with the previous rec's... might be the way to go. Check out that 'Lectric Razor stuff too (just a splash on, should be in a green bottle).

I usually just use my Remington beard/mustache shaver without a guard... gets it close enough to look like I shaved yesterday... close enough for me.

But hey... if someone said "Les Baer" and "Norelco"... I may have to get a SS Norelco to match my Baer...
