Vacuum Sealer - Costco $25 off

Recommended Posts

Been waiting for it to go on sale, it's on sale now $75 after $25 off.  It's a very good sealer.

I've been looking at the "25 year" containers and most of them are nothing more than dried fruits and other dried food vacuum sealed and stored in a dark box.   Things like Oatmeal, Mac and Cheese, and a few others freeze dried things you can buy off the shelf are great to seal and save for long periods of time.

Just note, you really want a good DARK (non-transparent) bucket to seal them into as well, as light will have a negative impact on it as well.

Just figured I'd share it here; not a bad thing to have.  Even if you don't get 20 years, but rotate it out every few years, it's still very helpful to have.

Don’t forget to add an oxygen absorber if you’re planning on long term storage.

I hope this isn't a dumb question, but do you mean for inside the vacuum sealed bag or inside the bucket?

Typically inside the bag.  Yes they’re sealed - but it’s not uncommon to see some leakage over time when you’re talking long term storage.

It also helps with the fact that often we seal in bigger than single meal quantities - and we need something to help with what’s left when we roll it back down.

That’s a really good tip, thanks!

Just looked on Amazon, the 500cc packets are about $10 for 100 of them, so not really expensive.  And yes, search for Oxygen Absorber for Food Storage, they have ones specifically for food storage.

What types of food would be good for sealing?

  • Oatmeal
  • Pastas
  • Beans
  • Pancake mix
  • Mac & Cheese
  • Rice
  • Dried mixes (like pudding and Jello)
  • Sugar
  • Dried Milk

Seems like veggies are something you’d have to grow.  So maybe seeds?
