Nutsac bags

For years I’ve carried backpack, sling bags messenger bags, etc, almost all either Maxpedition brand or something similar.  Many of my bags weren’t used much at all, hence the issue. I just downsized to a smaller maxpedition bag, but it’s a little too small.  want to get a new bag but don’t want black or tactical, LOL. I’ve been looking at a couple bags from nutsac, their sling plus and their messenger style bags.  Both are in the 200 dollar range, and I’m probably stupid for even looking at another bag, but well here I am.  Has anyone had any experience with their stuff?  $200 is a lot for a bag I’ve never the quality of.

As a fellow bag whore, I understand the need. I have more packs than I know what to do with.

I normally travel with my Tactical Tailor Urban Operator pack, but when I need something smaller and more low profile I've been using this one since 2013 and it's held up great.

Thanks, I’ll check those out!

What use are you looking at a bag for?  I bought a Lightweight Flight Messenger Bag from TImbuk2 three years ago for my day to day home to office needs.  Quite happy with it.

I’ve carried a Timbuk2 messenger bag as my daily bag for 18 years and it still is as good as new.  They make a great product.

On the topic of the original - looking at that bag in both the waxed canvas and "tactical black" - the value just isn't there for $200.  I appreciate the fact that they say they're sewn in the US - but even so - that's a lot for a a mediocre bag.

Here are a couple similar alternatives - specifically in the sling bag size which is going to be functionally limited to about 20L

If you're looking for something in canvas/leather - I really like these guys: https://olpr.com. They started in Ukraine - but are now in Mooresville, NC.  I've ordered a handful of things from them and have been so pleased with the quality and price of all of it.

I like the wolf tactical and olpr bags.  511 bag is bigger than I need and I have some of their bags already.  I actually have a maxpedition messenger bag somewhere in a safe place.  So safe that I can’t find it.  I can’t remember the size but thinking it might be too bag.  Like the Goldilocks bear, I want one that is just the right size with just the right features-oh wait.  She wasn’t looking for bags. thank you for the links.

Wow, I thought I was the only one, LOL. I've got way too many Maxped bags to claim not to be a bag whore too. Their Sitka Gearslinger is the one I use the most. I want something less tactical but equally versatile, but nothing I find checks the same boxes for the same money or less.

Oh, I forgot about one other of theirs that I love, the Neatfreak Organizer. It's SO cool and less tactical looking, but it's too small for a laptop. I got it because it fits my tablet, but then I realized I hate tablets.

Also, FWIW - the sling bag is kind of a specialized bag with a few applications that it really excels at.  Fishing is one of those.  They're big enough to hold gear to compliment fishing in the backcountry - and yet stay comfortable all day long.

Don't sleep on the sling packs made by Simms, Orvis, and FishPond.  I've run all three.  I like all of them because they're big enough without being overwhelming - and they'll hold a water bottle too.  Since you're in middle TN - I expect you could go down to FlySouth and put your hands on examples of all of them.

I think I’ve ruled out the nutsacs.  Still open to recommendations on bags though.

I'll also +1 the Timbuk2 bags. They're nearly indestructible. Back in the Northwest these things were pretty much the mainstay of every commuter and hiker. We used to joke that they were part of the "Welcome to Seattle starter pack" along with the ubiquitous NorthFace pullover and Nalgene bottle

Another sling bag fan here. I prefer them over backpacks. I learned this at the NRA conventions. I can spin the sling bag around front to add/remove things easily w/out taking it off.

I really like the fact that the fishing specific sling bags have a smaller 3-point strap that really locks things in when you’re moving - but unclip it and you can bring the whole rig around to your chest to get at whatever you need without taking the whole bag off.  I think you don’t really realize how useful it is until you use it.

I think some of the “tactical” bags miss on both of these points.  They’re a marginally smaller bag with one strap.  When you load them down they bounce around and are uncomfortable.  And, you have to take them off to get at your stuff.  They’re great for a “grab it quick and go” type bag - but they’re definitely limited.

Right now I’m using a Maxpedition Veldspar.  It’s not up to Max’s usual quality Nd is just a tad small for me.

I use a Timbuk2 too.... as a 'carrying extra crap on the bikes/grocery run' bag & I'm so impressed with the quality it's not even funny. Don't laugh, but check out the used clothes site; Poshmark.

I bought mine on there for less than pennies on the dollar. I think it was about $8 plus the shipping. It's maybe a bit big for edc use unless you literally carry a watermelon around every day, but they make smaller versions too.

I actually just picked up a very similar, same quality, smaller sized bag at a yardsale last week for a buck. I can't for the life of me remember what it is. I'll snag some details after work.
