I just got my HCP in Jan. 2009. I know it is good for 4 years. What is involved in getting it renewed? Can you go the the drivers license center to renew? Or do you have to mail it in? I thought I read some where that you have send in a certified copy of your birth cert. So what are the details on renewing? Thanks, gearyr

You can just go to the local DL station to renew. Can go within 6 months of the expiration date.

Since you just got your HCP they should already have your citizenship status on file, so it should be just filling out the renewal form and giving them $50.

I sent in my renewal application on January 6. I've called twice, and still haven't recieved my permit. What recourse do I have? I understand they are obligated to either grant you a permit, or send you a letter of denial within 90 days.....or else what???

Unfortunately they have no time limit to issue a renewal.

If your permit has expired or is about to they can send you a letter and/or receipt to carry with your expired HCP that makes it legal to carry until the renewed permit arrives.

Call again and ask them about the letter/receipt.

But back to the 90 days on new permits.....AFAIK there is no real consequence if they don't issue one within 90 days.
