Totally kicking myself for only buying 1000 rds 9MM UMC when Bass Pro had their 8.88/box sale last fall.

Anyway, right now I'm sitting on just 400 rds of practice ammo and maybe 50 rounds of defense ammo. I don't want to shoot any of it. Well, I want to shoot all of it but you know what I mean.

So I placed an order on Cabela's last week for some 9mm JHP and some 9mm FMJ. The FMJ's said 1-2 weeks. I got the JHP almost immediately and my card was only charged for that portion of the order. Today I get an email that says the 1-2 weeks has moved out to 5-6 weeks.

I called and cancelled that portion of the order. But now I'm thinking I should have just waited it out.

I don't have the time or energy to drive all over town hoping to catch a box here or there. If I'm at a store I'll look, of course, but lately have been coming up empty. It's all timing.

So now I'm thinking I should just replace my order with Cabela's (or any other online retailer who'll take a backorder and not charge my card immediately) and just wait it out. Seems apparent there isn't much to be had now, but if I go ahead with backorders on a few different sites I could be sitting on a whole pile of ammo in 2-3 months.

I had a similar experience with Cabelas. Took about 6 weeks to get it. In that time ammo price went from .28 a round to about .38 a round. (.40 S&W). For what it's worth...

LOL, right? I guess the only downside is I only have X amount to spend, so if I tie it up in backorders for 2-3 months if I find anything in the meantime I won't be able to buy it. And if suddenly a backorder quoted a 5-6 weeks suddenly goes to 10-12 weeks I'll be a little annoyed. Sort of like reading a crystal ball, which really can't be done in an irrational market.

They don't charge till they ship. If you find something else u can cancel your order. OR.. ucan just have a lot of ammo to shoot! :tough:

Don't know if this is possible for you but I had some ffolks coming in to visit form out of town. There is no shortage of ammo elsewhere so they brought me about 10 boxes of 8$ blazer 9mm from their local walmart

Funny that you bring this up, I canceled my Cabela's order today since the website said 0-1 week backorder, email said 5-6 week backorder. Since I found some .380 elsewhere I no longer needed it.

Now I'm with you, might be worth it to order and just wait a few weeks and get it rather than not order and still search for ammo every day for the next ____ weeks

Not disagreeing with you as I can only speak for where I live, but I'm impressed with the presence of Tennessee on the internet if we're the reason all ammo is sold out online lol.

Myself and a bud did a range trip this weekend. We took six hanguns of various calibers to test, tweak, and just go bang. We went through about 300 rounds. I'm not a believer in this insane hoarding, but a fella does need to have a little ammo to shoot. Otherwise what's the point? :tough:

my 1-2 week backorder from Cabela's is now into week 4. I'll just wait it out. one can never have too much ammo/stash. I ordered 10K SPP's for reloading and IF i ever get it and IF i ever find some while out and about I'll buy that too. sound's crazy, but one does what one has to do. I purchased 1k rounds of plinkers last Nov and only used 300 of those rounds, i need to refill my looses. i'll never tell how many reloads i have.....:tough:

Ah - I suspect it is mostly southern states? My guests where from Ohio... They reported an over abundance of ammunition in the walmart the visited. I am only thinking that it might be easier if you are already expecting guests from out of town to have them do a quick check.

Qui, valid point. Those crazy northerners don't even know what guns are! Thats why they have all the ammo :tough:

You've got to watch Bass Pro. I bought several calibers from them in February. They shipped a few, but the .45 and .40 shipped separately at a later date. They tried to charge shipping on all 3 shipments.
