Opinions on Kel-Tec Sub2000 ?

Been looking at these and like the idea of a PCC rifle. Especially a folder . Would make a great bug out bag choice to go along with a Glock 9mm. I like how the third gen. folds and twists to allow a red dot directly mounted. I have read good and bad reviews but most people like them. The S&W is another option but quite a bit more expensive and only uses Smith mags. If I do decide on a Sub2K then I have to decide on what color, . 😂

Mine is a 1st generation with Beretta mags.  It's been reliable with Winchester white box 9mm.  It likes to stay lubed.  I use Ballistol for oil and small dabs of grease.

The trigger pull is long, heavy, and atrocious.  The bolt handle under the stock is awkward and hard to operate.  The sights are almost a joke.  For 50 yards, they're fine, though.  You won't be trying to hit much longer than that, anyway.

I do not have experience with the later versions, but have heard that they are better.

I have both a 2nd gen and a 3rd gen.  I like them, but there certainly are better guns out there.  But I have several Kel-Tecs and like them all.  I don’t need two though and my 2nd gen is up for sale or trade.  As far as trades go, not sure but I’m open to ideas.

I have a gen 2 and like it for its compact easy to use configuration.  Wish I would have bought one that had the shallower mag well so G19 mags would work but mine needs G17 mags or longer.  At the time I bought it was very hard to find so my only requirement was I wanted gen 2 and glock mag well. There is a 3rd party red dot mount for gen 1 and 2.  I have planned on buying one for a few years.  I am a Kel-Tec fan, I also have a SU-16C that I like better than my AR.

I have a gen 2 with Glock mags, well Pmags, that lives in my truck BOB. Plenty 100 accurate with the factory sights. Hits plenty hard with heavy +p ammo. I wipe it down and oil it once in a while. Has never failed me. Gave $250 for it in a pawn shop a few years back.

Ive got one that takes glock mags (I think gen 2).  Like others have said the trigger is terrible, the charging handle is akward, and feels cheap overall.  That being said I put a Sig Romeo5 on an arisaka offset mount and it has maintained accuracy and it goes bang everytime I have pulled the trigger.

If you're patient, Kel-Tec sometimes does rebates. I got one last year (G19 mag well) from Palmetto State for 379.99 plus a $100 rebate from Kel-Tec so $280. With tax, shipping, and transfer/TICS I ended up all in out the door for $364.81.

At one time Kel-Tec sold Sub 2000 guns with a factory feed ramp made of plastic.  Aftermarket steel feed ramps are available.

They're neat weapons, and I firmly believe inexpensive guns serve an important role.  But after doing a few 2-gun matches, I prefer rifle caliber carbines now for practical purposes.

Picked it up Friday afternoon from Bellshire hardware and guns. I highly recommend them for transfers. With a coupon Blackstone sent for signing up for email specials it was less than $348 shipped. Haven’t taken it to the range yet but I sure do like the stock color. IMG_8012.jpeg.d6624e2e54baad33983754b330dce61e.jpeg

Tungsten is such a great color on a firearm. My ccw is two tone tungsten/black and I love it. Great price on that too!

I’ve had a Sub2000 for a while, and honestly, it’s a solid choice for a bug-out bag. The folding feature is super convenient, especially if space is tight, and pairing it with a Glock is a no-brainer if you're already running Glock mags. The third-gen’s twist for the red dot is a nice upgrade too. I’ve heard people mention the trigger is a bit mushy, but it’s not a dealbreaker for me. S&W’s option is great but pricey, and the mag compatibility is a big factor to consider. For color, go with whatever blends best with your setup.
