Hey guys,

I ran across an opportunity to purchase a used H&K USP Compact, .45, stainless slide, Tritium sights, with blackhawk holster.

This gun has had over 1,000 rounds through it. He is asking $690. Would this be a good cary gun, and would this be a good deal (given the round count)?

Thanks!

1,000 rounds hasn't even broken in a USP as far as I've ever seen. The round count wouldn't scare me at all and sure, it would be an excellent carry weapon provided that you shoot it well and it feels comfortable to you. I'm not sure if that price sets well with me or not but those handguns do command quite a premium even on Gunbroker. I see them listed there in the $900 range new.

As David mentions, only the price seams a little high to me, Round count would be a non issue. I carry a USP 40c 90% of the time with well over 2k rounds through it so I'm surely biased when I say it it is an excellent carry gun, and the .45 should be as well. Now one might argue that a lighter, less expensive weapon could be had but hey, to each his own.

Is there a bad opinion about HK usp's? I have never heard anything bad about any HK. 1K rounds is nothing its just getting warmed up. I would question it if it was 10,000 rounds. with ammo prices the way they are and non-existent it will last forever!

Buy it!

Overly expensive when compared to similar firearms. High bore axis makes muzzle flip a little more pronounced. "HK Tax" on accessories such as mags, gear, etc. Other than that... nope, no bad things to say about them.

Just curious, not at all trying to be disrespectful: In the same price range, what guns would you consider equals? Is HK a step above Springfield XD's and Glocks? Are Sig Sauer's on par with HK's?

I've heard people say that HK is above Sig, and other people say that for the price, an XD can't be beat.

Thanks for all the input so far!

Uh oh, here we go. You had to ask didn't ya?????

You are going to get many opinions and no clear answer from anyone. Like David stated in the second post "it would be an excellent carry weapon provided that you shoot it well and it feels comfortable to you". Your opinion is really the only one that matters. As Stated, I own a USPc and carry it most of the time however I also own a Glocks, Sigs, S&W's, Springfields, Beretta's etc. etc and I would NOT say that one is generally Superior to the other. They all have their Strengths and Weaknesses in my mind. I choose to carry my H&K Soley due to repetition, it is what I'm most familiar with and am comfortable with its functions.

I wouldn't consider one as above the other, I have owned both in the past (HK usp 40, hk usp 40 expert, hk usp 45 tactical, HK45 Compact, Sig P220, Sig P239, Sig P226). To me the + for the HK is the light weight compared to similar Sigs, other prefer the steel or alloy frame over the polymer. You can't really go wrong with either if you shoot it well. Sad thing is I prefer my Glocks for carry over them.

Just ran across a deal for a P2000SK in .357 for $625. My wallet cries for humanity.

I'm tempted to buy this and sell off my XD .40. Any thoughts?

I'd rather be packing .357 Sig than .40, but I'm a .40 hater :tough:

One of my requirements for a carry gun is that I be able to afford (and obtain) enough ammunition to practice with that I can stay proficient with the firearm. Not only is .357 SIG harder to come by, but it's quite a bit more costly than .40SW. Both of these facts have made me steer clear of that caliber for about 15 years now.

David has a point, yet right now all ammo is hard to find.

I prefer .357 sig myself, but I would be dishonest if I didn't admit that

because of the price of ammo I have thought about a 9mm to play with.

Not really worrying about an "End of World" type of situation happening, so being able to go anywhere and find ammo isn't a real concern.

I keep hoping against hope that the prices will come down. I found an old

empty box of .357 sig FMJ Lawman... the sticker said $11 bucks. Now the best I can do is $23* a box (FMJ), unless you buy in bulk from Georgia Arms. (*This puts it in the range of .45 ACP per box, and I don't see a lot of people trying to talk people out of buying .45s because they are too expensive to shoot.)

Considering how much time I actually have to shoot these days, I generally leave with ammo left unfortunitely.

A P2000SK in .357 for $625 sound pretty good to me. I've shot a mini-glock in .357 sig and really liked it. So I would think the HK would be pretty sweet too. ;)

I carry a USPc, yet wouldn't mind having a "SK" as well. I'm a small guy and every bit helps in the summer when concealing. ;)

If it’s brand new with the extra .40S&W barrel it’s a good price; otherwise it’s not.

That combo would also make the .357 vs. .40 moot.

I have an HK usp .45 it was my favorite handgund until I picked up a P30 HK 9MM and I really just dont care for a 9.

I picked up an HK P2000KP V3 COMBO .357Sig with a S&W .40 barrell, this is absolutly the finest pistole I have shot.

I own over 40 pistols,Half I shoot and half have only been shot at the factory.

If I were only going to fondle one it is a Colt Diamondback,I own 4 but have never in my life shot one.

Pythons,I own 4 and have only shot 1. 3 wheels.

USPc .45 in SS is my everyday carry. Just like my Visa, I don't leave home without it. May not be the smallest "compact" but, I carry it just fine on my medium frame.
