Any chance you post a link the stuff you carry around. I think it's a great idea.

I wouldn't mind but I don't know where I'd post it. Photobucket won't let me post a .pdf and if I convert it to .jpg's it will be 16 images. Any suggestions?

If you PM me your email address, I'll email it directly to you.

Appreciate that, however most of the links bring up 1 line of something. Not the law it is supposed to reference. Don't know.

Hmmm....I see that.

I'll work on it shortly.

Maybe a dumb question here..but I'll ask anyway.

If you represent yourself as a law enforcement officer, Sheriff's Deputy for instance, and you really aren't....isn't that really really close to impersonating an officer?

Was this SG armed?

Just because you work for the sheriffs office (what is the transportation div.?) are you a real Deputy?(ie: certified).

If he was a "real" deputy wouldn't he be in his official uniform working off duty detail?

Most departments don't allow you to work for another employer off-duty in your department issued uniform. Liability reasons and such.

ALL of the PO POs here do.

I've always thought having off-duty officers working private security jobs in their department's uniform is a really bad idea for a variety of reasons.

First of all, in the guise of rent a cop, it makes them look unprofessional and detracts from their authority,

Secondly, if they are injured on the moon-lighting job and go on disability as a result, it's going to cost the taxpayers money.

Cops shouldn't be allowed to moon light as security officers, period.

Off duty cops working in uniform is very effective, being a win-win both for the business and the community, and doesn't detract from their authority. They are still police. Most departments prohibit side jobs that aren't covered by workmen's comp insurance separate from the department's, so taxpayers usually aren't affected by injuries resulting from side jobs. That said, this thread is about a jailer with no sworn authority moonlighting, not a police officer moonlighting.

As I read through these posts I am reminded why I moved out of Davidson county.

Just outside Davidson county we don't seem to need anyone to guard us whilst we shop for groceries...

My son's off duty "security" details are run through the dept., he wears his uni and drives his patrol car to and from. He works detail at a strip club, walgreens and guard gate at condo complex. The city I worked for all PD details had to go through the city.

Ummm....you do realized that disability is paid out through the federal government to those who qualify to anyone, not just cops, right?

If you're talking about insurance disability,or workers comp then that would be paid by the place of employments insurance.

I see it as a plus.

Theres actually a gas station here in Brainerd that gets allot of questionable traffic at night, and I will not stop there unless there is a cop working the side walk!

Im sure they get allot of extra business because of the moon-lighters!

I think this varies from location to location.

I know back home when the hospital first decided to have security they had off-duty LEOs. But actually the hospital simply paid the city and the city paid the officers. They done it during the time they weren't scheduled to patrol. So they did wear their uniforms because they were still acting under their authority as LEOs (Like the situation farman talked about)

Some agencies may allow their officers to work off-duty security and work directly for the other place but still regulate agency issued equipment (uniform, weapons, etc...)

Other agencies may not even allow their officers to work off duty security jobs.
