Ar 10 build

I have decided i want a Ar 10. The problem is I do not know much about them. Something that will reach out a 1000 yards. Does anyone have any suggestion on a upper? Barrel twist? length? Or anything else you would suggest or think I need to know?

All I know is that there is really not a general standard for AR-10’s as there is for 15’s.  If you’re wanting to build one compatibility of components is something to consider.

When building AR-10's I try keep most with the same company for whatever reason Aero Precision is selling Stag upper and lower combos for $199 the 16.6 inch handguard for another $124 and armorally.com has Stag AR-10 BCG for $113 last I checked I just built one with a Wilson combat sniper 24" inch barrel and it shoots insane in 6.5 Creedmoor I would say 6/6.5 Creedmoor or .260 like the first guy said if your looking to get to 1000 yards

Great advice given thus far.

Stick with DPMS pattern parts. Aero Precision upper & lower would be great choices.

Going with .308 Win or 6.5 Creedmoor gets you a 1,000 yard capable gun.

Truth be told, your best, and least expensive and least complicated bet, is to just buy a PSA AR-10 with a 20" barrel & get to shooting.

what is your goal?  Just be able to hit a gong at 1000 yards?  If that is all you're going for a PSA basic build with a Viper PST Gen 2 will do it, but you will likely spend a good amount of time chasing it.  Repeatable hits at 1000 out of a semi-auto are doable, but it is not a cheap endeavor I'm afraid.

Just had to fit a firing pin to a ar10 bolt. So satisfying lapping it in, but I wish they were more like ar15s.
