HB0960 Parks Bill Running into Problems in Senate

It looks like the senate sponsor for the local parks bill has a little disagreement with the house rep on how the bill should be worded. The house version basically makes it illegal to carry in a park UNLESS local govt allows. The senate version forces the local governments to properly post certain portions, if they choose to, but can't blanket ban guns. The local parks bill will probably die.....thankfully...because the house version for sure makes carrying a handgun in a local park illegal....replacing 'prohibited weapons' that are banned with firearms....so in a way the house bill takes us many many steps back and make many of us who believe it is legal to carry in a park very illegal/misdemeanor charge.

I'll link you to the commercial appeal's article:

Yeah, I'm all for just nuking the whole local parks thing rather than have this.

It would be easier to start again from scratch than try to overturn a newer, actually more restrictive, statute, seems to me.

I agree....best for this one to just die for now.

Watching the house floor yesterday...I noticed Reps wanting to "opt their county out" of a few different bills. Restaurant carry, Liquor Manufacturing etc.....

Now I know there are already laws on the books that exempt certain counties from certain laws, but I couldn't help getting the feeling that they got the "opt out" idea from the local parks bill.

I mean that is the whole purpose for state laws, isn't it....to have uniformity across the state. Also the reason for state preemption in 39-17-1314 on gun laws.

Anyway.......:hat:
