Ann Coulter to speak at UTC...

Recommended Posts

I got this in my e-mail and thought it may be a good speaking event to attend...

Constitutional Attorney Ann Coulter will appear October 5, 2009 in the Burkett Miller Distinguished Lecture Series, addressing the topic “Changes in American Government.†Ms. Coulter’s speech will be critiqued by UTC’s own Rebecca Jones with assistance from Heather Palmer.

Ann Coulter is the author of seven New York Times Best Sellers; she is the legal correspondent for Human Events, writes a popular syndicated column for Universal Press Syndicate and is a frequent guest on many TV shows, including Hannity and Colmes and Wolf Blitzer Reports. Coulter graduated with honors from the Cornell University School of Arts and Sciences and received her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, where she was an editor of The Michigan Law Review. In 2001, she was named one of the top 100 Public Intellectuals by Federal Judge Richard Posner.

Both Drs. Jones and Palmer are professors of English at UTC and also teach in the Women’s Studies program. Dr. Jones teaches courses on argumentation studies, rhetorical theory, writing, and gender studies, and coordinates the internship program. Her current work investigates the connections between individual belief, activist rhetoric, and the role of citizens in an active democracy.

Sponsored by the Scott L. Probasco, Jr. Chair of Free Enterprise and the Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute, this event takes place at noon in the University Center auditorium; is free and open to the public; and seating is limited to a first-come, first-served basis.

I will try to attend this. I guess we will find out how many left wing radicals there are at UTC... as some will only show up to enforce their support for the Bill of Rights by shouting and throwing pies.

So there needs to be a large contingent of students who will escort the fascists out of the room.

As a current (and soon graduating) UTC student, I will come back for this.

As for escorting them out, this is UTC. Our police force recently lost a lawsuit because they allowed black women openly discriminate against white men. Administration shrugged. $5 says it becomes an utter mockery very quickly. I have no faith at all in this school.

Wish I could be there but a Monday at noon... hard to do. I agree that the Students need to deal with the facists so that Ann is free to speak. When your only tactic is to shout down an opposing point of view, you have no argument. I respect protesters as long as they are respectful to those they are protesting.
