Feeling Betrayed Yet??? 🤨

The GOP has practically gutted the whole 2A section from their party platform for 2024.

https://thereload.com/2024-republican-platform-drops-gun-rights-promises/#:~:text=In its first official platform, the process entirely in 2020.

“The 2024 platform’s cursory discussion of gun policy priorities marks a significant departure from the party’s 2016 platform. The party previously dedicated an entire section to the Second Amendment. In it, the GOP listed specific pro-gun policies it wanted to enact, as well as gun-control measures it opposed.”

“We support firearm reciprocity legislation to recognize the right of law-abiding Americans to carry firearms to protect themselves and their families in all 50 states,” the 2016 document reads. “We support constitutional carry statutes and salute the states that have passed them.”

“We oppose ill-conceived laws that would restrict magazine capacity or ban the sale of the most popular and common modern rifle,” the section continues. “We also oppose any effort to deprive individuals of their right to keep and bear arms without due process of law. We condemn frivolous lawsuits against gun manufacturers and the current Administration’s illegal harassment of firearm dealers. We oppose federal licensing or registration of law-abiding gun owners, registration of ammunition, and restoration of the ill-fated Clinton gun ban.”

I really don’t think we have any friends in high places, anymore.I’ve felt this way for a while now.

Or maybe they are trying to not make it a huge issue for a voting block that may actually be considering Trump due to how bad Biden is.

Sometimes it’s better to hide your intentions and gain what little you can.   That may not be it at all, but no 2nd amendment person is not voting Republican anyway.   Or at a minimum not voting Dem.   They are trying to grab people in the middle.

Fence riders that don't really stand for anything. You ask the same question 5 times and you get 5 different answers. The GOP has turned into a bunch of walkie talkie bobbleheads

I'm guessing ( and it is a guess ) that they think that the Supremes have gutted any meaningful chance at tighter gun laws ( which I think is right ) and they are doing exactly what Brother Hozzie opined.   They smell a big win here that could last a decade...

I think you are on to something.  They didn't go berserk with abortion stuff either.  Maybe trying to win over a few middle-of-the-road voters.  What a concept.

This platform was written by DJT’s people according to his preferences. They’ve taken out of rendered meaningless the planks regarding abortion, the 2A and marriage. It’s a platform that would be comfortable for any 1980s NYC liberal Democrat. You know, like I’ve been saying DJT was since the day he showed up.

The only positions the supposedly “conservative” GOP wants to conserve are the positions the liberals held 10-20 years ago.

Well, not too long ago, many a Democrat/liberal talked about curbing illegal immigration and having an actual border, making welfare a second chance as opposed to a way of life, and ending the era of big government.  Liberals used to have some (or at least pretended to have some) beliefs in common with conservatives.  Now they talk like socialists.

I'm glad they toned down the abortion rhetoric.  I don't like it, but I don't see why either side blows so much political capital on it.

It’s way down the list of priorities for a lot of people.

It's true that the GOP doesn't specifically mention 2A in the new platform, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they've thrown it to the dogs.  We still have the old Constitution to hope in, doubled by the protections of the Tennessee Constitution.  However, the new GOP platform does hint that they still believe in self-defense rights:

2. Rebuild Our Cities and Restore Law and Order

Republicans will restore safety in our neighborhoods by replenishing Police Departments, restoring Common Sense Policing, and protecting Officers from frivolous lawsuits. We will stand up to Marxist Prosecutors, vigorously defend the Right of every American to live in peace, and we will compassionately address homelessness to restore order to our streets.

We can't live in peace if we worry about somebody kicking in our door or attacking us in public.

That said, I don't want to make an argument completely from the document's silence.  Basically, if the good guys win the election, I'm hoping they'll keep to the promises of the past as well as the present.  But if the bad guys win, all bets are off.

To answer the OPs headline question, YES, I'M FEELING BETRAYED.

It feels like the Dems have moved on to Marxism & Socialism and the Republicans are evolving into 1980 Democrats. If neither of the two parties will openly come out in support of the second amendment in a public way, we have a serious problem.

It is looking like we need a third party to form and stake out a platform of fiscal responsibility (balanced budget), total support of the constitution, and securing the borders. Maybe call itself the Constitutionalist Party.

With no 2nd Amendment, we no longer have a Republic. We will just be another European sh-thole, heading toward the exit of being a superpower, ushered quickly along by our enemies (China/Russia/N Korea/Iran).

Even if the RNC dropped any mention of the 2A to try and capture some 'middle of the roaders' it still sets a bad precedent. It means they don't think they can win by taking a hardline on guns. And that will lead to thinking they can/should "compromise" on some gun control to capture even more voters in the future because, who else can pro-gunners vote for anyway?

It means they take our vote for granted & won't be a reliable bulwark against infringement of our rights. I don't like it at all. It's a bad precedent for them to be setting. If the RNC doesn't think this matters, they are wrong. DJT needs to wake up & realize where his base comes from. I will not support a party that won't support me. Even if that means "throwing my vote away" on some distant nobody just to send a message. It's all I've got, really.

Message to RNC and DJT - put 2nd Amend support back into the party platform. There is no Republican Party without a Republic. And there is no Republic without armed citizens to stand against tyranny. It's not negotiable or optional.

Then even you are suspect.  😱   There's only been One in history who is truly good, but until He comes back and reconciles all things, we have to decide on those who best talk and walk with imperfect goodness.

I said something in another post about authoritarians not wanting their supporters to have guns. It got a few chuckles, and a select few will chuckle at this post, but if the rumors are true about Trump, the gun hating liberal democrat hiding in plain view truly wanting to become a authoritarian, why would he allow you to have guns?

You asked the right question, who else are his supporters going to vote for to lead the country?

I don’t remember the last time I heard anyone in my circle bitching about abortion.  Economy, inflation, crime, don’t start WW3, stop the border madness, woke DAs.  Bigger fish to fry…

Item 7 of the platform says defend the right to keep and bear arms.  Am I missing something?

I just lifted this from the GOP 2024 Platform:

DEFEND OUR CONSTITUTION, OUR BILL OF RIGHTS, AND OUR FUNDAMENTAL FREEDOMS, INCLUDING FREEDOM OF SPEECH, FREEDOM OF RELIGION, AND THE RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS

Brother deerslayer is exactly right...

So the 2A details and rhetoric were trimmed.  I don’t see how that equates to Trump is a closet gun grabber, as some on here apparently believe.

Speaking of gun hating/grabbing liberal/communists. Who did you support & vote for on 2020. 🤣

You're warning us about President Trump, if he is a gungrabbing liberal, sounds like someone you could support...

With a two-party system it's very hard to vote for anybody. Mostly you have to vote against someone

Thanks Leroy. I'm good with this. This is enough to keep me happy.

When neither major party will publicly state support for the Bill of Rights, and specifically the second amendment, it will be another sign of the apocalypse for the USA. I hope to never see it.

@Moped - I feel you got us all spun up for nothing.
