Stevens 311 Firing pins stuck?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I need your wisdom.  I bought this old Stevens 311 double barrel shotgun.  I cannot close the barrels when the shells are in there because it seems the firing pins are stuck in the strike position. I've field stripped it and bathed it in ballistol to get as much gunk out of there as possible. If I were to disassemble it further i'd have to take out these two rivets (they don't look like pins). Does anyone have any insight? I've googled the issue but I haven't found anyone with a similar issue.

Are the hammers cocking back when you open the action? If they are, a brass hammer and lite taps to see if the pins move.

the hammers are cocking back, but the firing pins are still stuck in the forward position.

You might try submerging the entire metal assembly into a jar of transmission fluid and leaving it to sit over night. That stuff works wonders to dissolve old, gunked up oil or grease. Then try those light taps with a brass hammer.
