This is nuts, went to the mailbox and got a letter from Suntrust Bank and a notice to pick up a certified letter also from suntrust!

Well they both are the same and both state that a ATM Deposit for $629.99 on 4/8/09 was either misplaced or destroyed during processing

and they did Credit my acct. for $629.99, but for me to please have any or all checks in the deposit re-issued to me since they never seen them or have any idea of how many checks were involved!

So now they want the issuer of the check(s) to make them out for the same amount, less any stop payment fee's and for me to mail or fax them to Suntrust!

Well 2 of the 4 checks were from the Govt. 1 income tax, the other for Jury Duty, the other from an Ins. Refund and the last one was from a person who had owned me some money! I cant believe this, since it is going to be hard to get a live person from any Govt. Agency on the phone!

I just wonder as to what would have happened, if the amount would have been larger, since i did deposit a check for $9.000 in the ATM, a week ealier, doubt if they would have credited my acct..

The bad thing is on all 4 checks which they lost, the issuer will have to pay a Stop Pay. fee, which i dont know how much it is, maybe $15. to $25. a check?

I am at the point of telling them to go to Hell, since why should i waste Hrs. of my time to fix their stupidity! Has anybody ever had anything like this happen?

1. This is why I don't EVER do a deposit into an ATM.

2. You need to go into a branch and SIT DOWN with a branch manager and resolve this.

I cant go to the local branch, since both letter's came from Atlanta,Ga. and the phone and fax numbers as well as the Envelope in which they want me to resent the Check's to, is in Atlanta,Ga.

The way this Bank works, it is way over the head of a local Branch!

I just wonder, if i do nothing, if they could take the $629.99 out of my acccount?

I had a couple of something similar situations.

One, I left in a night deposit box and they never pulled my check out, so I was just short that amount until I called to complain and they found the check still in the deposit envelope.

The other, my wife deposited cash into an ATM, which mysteriously was short $100 at processing time.

Both got resolved, but the lesson is that all deposits should be made in person - either through the drive-thru or going inside to a teller.

I would talk with the Suntrust people and inform them of the Government checks and ask for their opinion as to options. The insurance one should be an easy fix. The personal one I personally wouldn't worry about for the following reason:

Stop payments are typically time limited (1 year, I think). Therefore, the cost to renew the stop payment could, theoretically, go on indefitely, I would be tempted to tell Suntrust that the 4th one will not end up being more than the combined total of the stop payment fees.

+1

Definitely go see a branch manager.

Things like this just reinforces my decision not to do deposits like this.

I would be worried that they would take that money back if you don't get the replacement checks.

Good luck.

If i dont do anything, could i loose the $629.99? Since they have no idea from what the letter said, as to what was in the dep. and i guess, the only way they know, how much was the amount was, is from the $ amount, on my little receipt

No, that is not "how this bank works". If there is a local branch GO THERE and sit down and talk to the BRANCH MANAGER.

It is their JOB to resolve issues like this. Period. End of story.

Agreed with above statement...go to local branch!

Yes, they can remove the deposit from your account and probably will if you don't get this resolved. You cannot prove that you actually put anything in the envelope other than a piece of paper.

1. Do they have the actual envelope that you deposited?

2. Do you have any stubs from the checks that were sent to you?

3. Go see the manager.

In the future only do deposits through the drive through or walk inside the bank. Sorry this happened to you.

1. ????????????????

2. There were no stubs on any checks!

3. I guess i will see the Manager at the branch, where dep. was made and find out, what happ. will due this Mon. or Tue!

I feel i will have a big Head-ache, before this gets resolved!

Thank's to all for the input!

Still dont see how anything like this could happen?

I don't generally make deposits via the ATM machines, but the very few times I have, I was issued a receipt with the exact dollar amounts. If I deposit a check, a photocopy of the check is on the receipt.

I would try the local branch manager, and if that didn't work, I'd do my best to get someone of authority at their corporate office.

Once you've made the deposit (assuming you have proof of said deposit), it should be their problem.

Let me get this right: you deposit checks through ATM and you instantly get a photocopy of those checks on your ATM receipt?

I don't buy it. I would ask to not only see the records of the deposits for that day but also the tapes and access logs from the ATM. You shouldn't have to reproduce these things. Items don't just vannish or get destoried. Force them to track it down.

Actually, i have no proof of anything, except they surely have a copy of the tape, when i made the dep.

At Suntrust when making ATM dep. you sign the check(s) and list them on dep. ticket, then list the info. on the envelope, seal it, punch dep. amount in to the comp. then slide envelope in the slot! Then the comp. prints a receipt ticket for your records.

From what the form letter says, the dep. was either misplaced or destroyed, so i dont know anymore, this happ. on 4/8/09, which the letter

does not even mention a date, but it is dated 4/17/09 and came today!

So i would guess anybody using this branch at this time, had the same problem.

Sounds like fun having to contact all 4 places, fill out lost check reports, have new ones issued and the parties will have to put stop pay. on the frst ones!

Call one of the tv stations. maybe one of them will investigate this. This is exactly the type of crap that has the banking industry in the shape it's in. Lack of accountibility and lack of good manageent.

The wisest thing that I know is:

If you only know two people in your life know your banker and your insurance agent. Make sure they know your face and your voice.

That is what i also thought of doing, since i should not have to go thru this hell, the private person who one check of $400. was from, wanted me to give him my Checking acct. no. so he could give it to his Bank! No way in hell, will i give my acct. nos. to anybody.

As for the joke know youre Banker and Ins. Agent and make sure they know your voice! My ins. co. has had 3 different agents inthe last 10 yrs. and my bank at least 3 or 4 different mgrs. in the samt time span!

Seems Tellers never last but a few month"s!

That is the way mine works (might be the same one). You just insert your checks, it scans them and displays the check and the dollar amount. It then asks you to confirm the amount or provide the correct amount. When it prints out your receipt there is a picture of each check right on it.

Then you should change your bank and your insurance company.

That is what i also thought of doing

So you actually considered calling the TV station, before you even took the time to speak to someone face to face in the actual branch?

You should probably give up right now.

dont use commercial bank either, me and my wife have had so many problems out of them its pathetic. I cant count how many times we have gone to pay for a meal at a restaurant or gas at a gas station and have them tell us insufficient funds when we knew there was money in there and every single time we called the bank, it was bank errors. That :) is embarrassing. We are switching to enrichment tomorrow.
