East Tennessee **MAY SHOOT**

Recommended Posts

Are we going to try to get one together in May?

Third Saturday would make it on May 16.

Any ideas on a location?

Bueller? Anyone?

Norris. I need to go again to make my yearly dues worth it. I say start earlier in the day to beat any crowd away. Or we can all just show up in biker leathers and fake tattoos all over our faces to run everyone off...or get shot.

Calendar, I think its June to June, and that's for the annual membership, which is basically paying twice. If you go more than twice, its worth it. If not, its ten or fifteen dollars. I think they went up in price. Its a decent place to shoot.

Yeah, it's $30.00, 6/30 to 6/30 year.

Believe it is $10 for one time use; bad part is that a yearly pass on May 16th wouldn't be much of a deal unless you used it more than 3 times in next 6 weeks.

It's really nice during the week up there, usually pretty sparse, can be pretty crowded on weekends in nice weather.

Single use, you stop by Norris Police Dept. and get key (extra buck or two for deposit), and return key on way back. Yearly, they give you a key, you just go to range and shoot.

Norris and the TWRA bench range in North Knox are the only two outdoor ranges in the area. And the bench range, you have to shoot seated.

I believe they prorate the fee if purchased after June. If I go this weekend I will stop by and ask.

They didn't last year, when I joined in late Sept.

What about Oak Ridge?

If you mean ORSA, that's a private club.

I'm down for whatever. Just need to get my shoot on.

AHH Crud you are right and their rates went up too

I already talked to one guy at Gatlinburg Sportsmans club too about organizing a shoot. They pretty much said no. I might my buddy contact the President see if he can pull some strings.

there is also Chuck Swan up past Maynardville.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - Region 4 - Chuck Swan WMA

They have a 100 yard lane for rifles and another shorter one for pistols.

I have only been there one time. IIRC there was a covered shooting area with two concrete benches.

No supervision and also no cost to shoot. Have not been there in near two years though.

That place we shot in the fall near Oak Ridge/Oliver Springs wasn't bad.....does anyone know if Phantom still has access to that? I think it was $5 a piece wasn't it?

Good idea. Never been but have heard of it.

TJ, I think the OR place we shot at was effectively shut down for our use. Maybe Phantom will read this thread and chime in sometime.

We have some time to sort this all out anyway.

Ah, that sucks....It was a little crowded, but once some people started over at the steels, it was a bit easier to shoot comfortably. I'm up for anywhere, just nice to be on the range. I'm not very used to shooting in big groups, so I like lots of space.

There's always those old strip mines up on Windrock mountain just past the Brushy Mountain facility. Don't know how good that is for an extended session. May be more of a get in and out as quick as possible thing. :(

I could always ask Mark in Kingsport if he would let us use his range again.

I suggested around Knoxville only because we used to rotate back and forth.

I understand some people may not want to make the drive, not that it is really all that far.

Mike, if you'll be rangemaster, you're welcome to use the range. As for food, that is something you'd have to take up with Sue.

There is a chance I will still be home. Won't know for a few days, though.

I would prefer to use Mark@seas range. I have no trouble being responsible for the target stands, picnic table and seeing to it that trash it carted out at the end of the day.

I do not expect Sue and Mark to put on a spread of food when we use the place. I would be happy to bring some charcoal and lighter fluid for the grill, people can supply their own food and drink if they want.

At any rate I say we let this discussion carry on in the thread for a week or so and then decide where to do the May Shoot.

So everyone please state you preference for either at Mark's in Kingsport or at the range in Clinton.

I can help with all the preparation, if we do it @ Mark's. I have some things I need to do over there anyway.

And I agree Mike....Sue and Mark do NOT need to provide food or anything else, use of the range is MORE than enough.

I dont think that I would be able to make another Kingsport shoot anytime soon, that is kind of a haul. But if that is where it ends up I might try to keep the calendar clear.

as good a time as i had at marks last time i think i would prefer to go to the range in clinton just because 100 miles each ways is a little far.
