Only upside I see is that it’s close at hand when the Butlerian Jihad kicks off.

Nice reference.

I'm 50/50 on if it's more of a liability than an asset. Along with Oak Ridge, Barrett, Beretta, S&W, etc, we're already a target. If the site goes full Skynet, we'll have to flood it with Mountain Dew, just to make sure.

Curious to know if they build the structure with an integrated faraday cage, considering the state the world currently.

oddly, a LOT of the IT community is into firearms. I'm not only a client...

Being into firearms and being effective at protecting yourself with firearms are two distinctly different disciplines. AI developers and data scientists are pretty deep into the autism spectrum.  They are on another level compared to garden variety IT people. If there is interest, they collect firearms like Warhammer 40K figurines.

They're keeping quiet about details, but rumors abound.  Rumor has it that they got some major tax breaks by coming to Memphis. Politicians at work. New business makes them look good, but I have my doubts about this helping the local economy. 🙄

Rumors also says they will be moving into the old Electrolux factory in SW Memphis and they got it pretty cheap. Not exactly a good part of town.  I hope XAI will have armed security. 🥴

I caught one little blurb on the news that said the place will require one million gallons of water and a poop load of electricity. I wish them luck with that.

Just imagine. Artificial intelligence surrounded by natural stupidity. 😄

They will be armed enough to perform a third world coup.

Switch datacenters have gov't contracts out the wazoo. They hire ex-military for security staff and outfit them accordingly. AR15s, shotguns, body armor, riot shields, Humvees, etc, etc. They have express permission from Uncle Sam to take fuel, at gunpoint if needed, to keep their generators running in the event they lose power. Those boys love making that known to those of us that go through their security clearance briefing to gain access to a particular site.

Knowing ole Musky, xAI will have gov't contracts and be afforded similar liberties.

Yep, my choice for building a hugely expensive IT facility!  Iffy power supply, huge crime problems, and a pretty good chance of a major earthquake destroying the whole area!  🤣
